Astrolux HL01 Too Throwy Solutions

Did you sand it at low rpm’s? I think sanding at higher speeds might melt the plastic somewhat.

i dont have lumens measurement but im very sure the loss is negligible to your eyes.

yeah i sand low speed.

im very happy with the smooth flood and its more pleasing for close up work.

Nice! gonna add “Sanding” to my ToDoList. Oh I got some Metal Polish and a Dremel too. I once polished the yellow out of an old car headlight assembly. Works quite well too.

I did it once. Cheap TIR from BG and Ali caused nearly 30% loss, while Carclo just 7%. Didn’t know This seller then.

I did it once too…

I tried scotch tape and it smooth out the hot spot and spill area but still throwy compare to TIR.

Yajiamei optic is much better quality than convoy TIR . Clemence have proven with Armytek headlamps.

Likely this one will fit without any modification. The total height of reflector + lens is about the same as this TIR. Just be mindful im using SST20 LED

Hey thanks for the Ali TIR links. Unfortunately they sell in batch of 20 which is quite a lot. I only need at most maybe 5 lol.

Hey nice I saw the Ali link for TIR but they sell batches of 20 only. I just need 5 at the most lol.
Wait… I just had an idea. How about very light hand sanding on a spare lens! That should give a diffused look which is what I want. :student:

If you're not wanting to kill too much throw I have a lighter frosted film that was listed as #2C. I may change the number to #3 since I no longer carry the really heavy/thick material that I was calling #3 . Either way the #2,2B,2C and #7 are some of the nicer frosted diffuser films I carry . I don't think I sent lightbringer any of the #2C but it's great stuff .Instead of throwing out so many samples with orders I am going to make up 2 or 3 assorted packs for people who want to try a little bit of everything .

Hey that sounds great. Variety is good in the beginning. You never know when your taste for color and tints change.

Got DC fix from Boaz! I put number 7 in my Ultrafire z1, it’s amazing how it works so well.

How do I remove the bezel to the HL01?

Thank for the help from everyone!

Welcome to the better beam club.

Maybe this will help: DC-Fix Diffusion Film Sale - #362 by phouton

Now you need to try the minus green filters and some of the better diffusion film combo .. kinda makes all those ho-hum lights suddenly POP !!!

I just got my DC-fix and what a great pkg!. Thanks Boaz for all the free samples! I need to buy more flashlights now :money_mouth_face:. I did a quick test holding some in front of the HL01 and now I have the spill I need. :sunglasses: Gonna mount film this weekend and post some shots up.

Still no luck is it righty tighty lefty loosey? Tried rubber band, tried needle nose in the notches, no luck, thank again for the help

I had a friend lend a third hand and got it, thanks everyone

Just installed #1 and I luv the spill now. Quite diffused and warmish. It's an SST20 4000K so with the film, I lose quite a bit of lumens. It's ok though as I just using it for indoor use. Like close up stuff and beyond to 20'.
Plus if you trace using a 18650 battery on the film, then by trimming around 1mm off it’ll fit just nice on the lens.

Nice and spilly now @ Turbo to 20'

Hmm, shouldn’t lose more than a few % total lumens. Lux/Throw, sure.

DFed my Tacklife, and now it’s a great flooder, especially for around the house. It’s like carrying a brick in my pocket (sweats, jammies, whatever they’re called), but lights up a nice wide swath.

Hey guys, I’m noticing that when I go to unscrew the battery on the last turn there is a sweet spot where the light won’t turn back on right before the cap comes completely off. Is this a possible battery shorting hazard? if you need pictures or video or more description let me know, thanks so far on all the help

Actually not a whole lot of lumens missing but then again there is a file on there. I think I rig up the light meter and give it a test tonight. Always good to have some numbers to record.
