Well, I have not reviewed the ratings of the Sofirn Q8, but I can attest that it can operate through a drop from the top of a door to the floor. Don’t ask . . . Facepalm Thumbs Up

One tough light!

I noticed my brand new floor did not fare nearly as well. Facepalm

Hopefully I can repair it before the missus notices. Innocent

Tell her it was a ‘highly scientific’ drop test. And that you were ‘taking one for the team’ by preforming it.

That probably won’t fly of course….. but maybe the genius of the story will take the edge off her dismay. Big Smile

I have a few proving grounds around the state and finally took both my Sofirn Q8 and D4 w/XPl hi to the hills and valleys with big oaks. In stock form, the Q8 is amazing at output and throw! I can't imagine what Dale's upgrades would do to it! I know many have already experienced this. I'm now just about at the 'giggle' reaction output level!

The deal on the Sofirn Q8 supposed to kick in at 13:45 PST, assume that's 4:45 PM EST. I got the email from Amazon on this. I dunno if this notification link will work for anyone else but here it is:

https://smile.amazon.com/preferences/push/how-to-get-notified?entityType=DEAL_ID&topic=NMWA&channels=EMAIL,PUSH&entityID=d78c1871&validTill=2019-02-12T21:45:30&language=en_US&ref_=pe_6926380_394650450_notifyme-deal-email

Oops, mine is on smile as well... I use smile for donations directed to our church.

Expected/guessing on price will be in the low $40's.

I think someone said last time it went on a similar deal it was $42.44. By the time folks read this it the deal should have started.

Donno if this is appropriate here, but having recently acquired a Q8, I believe
Sofirn and BLF should consider having a re-charging plug onboard the Q8.

Eliminating disassembly to charge the batteries would be a great plus, with
Less wear and tear to boot.

A quick and dirty convenience, Thumbs Up with a stellar light. Beer

You can have that with the SP36

Just a quick note. Nkresho put some xhp50.2 in his Q8 and got about 16k lumen. Crazy.

The new 3v version 50.2 seems to work well in the Q8.

A nice update for the Q8, still a solid real life performer among the now common lumen monsters.

Good to see you back after CNY Barry, I hope that the virus will have limited effect on you and the others at Sofirn!

Good news Barry. I myself have become a Anduril fan and have been tweaking it and loading it on Q8's. I've made some tweaks, like adding voltage calibration. It calibrates the same way as temperature calibration works. We have found variations of voltage readings from unit to unit.

Can you tell me if the driver is still the same? Is it a new design, using the Atmel 1634?

The statement:  Integrated power indicator in side switch indicates remaining battery power

Indicates something changed, perhaps? How does that work, exactly?

If the driver was redesigned to using the 1634 MCU, then using an external voltage divider circuit would work much better -- it's more accurate unit to unit.

It is not redesign. But only change firmware.

I was just gonna suggest that, maybe in a v2.

‘351s, anduril, etc., all nice, but I’ll still hang onto my originals until charging is added.

I could be tempted by this. BLF SP36 satisfies my big (ish) soda can style needs for now.

Yeah, I already got a coupla ‘36es, so unless a new Q8 is a real game-changer, I don’t really “need” another one.
