I was wondering if a Cree XM-L2 T6 led is compatible with a board for Cree XM-L T6? Reason I ask is Led is L2 and board only says L??

I can’t answer your questio, about the XM-L vs XM-L2 size, but I can tell your that XM-L2 leds won’t fit perfectly under this host’s reflector.
XP-L2 and Luxeon V are tight fit, but XM-L2 is larger than the reflector hole.

Hey thanks for the tips! So would it be ok if I modded the reflector hole bigger for the L2? Seems like it might fit but might have to enlarge hole myself?

This is how the reflector looks like, and how it sits on XM-L2. You can probably mod it, but…I am not sure how larger it needs to become to sit well. Meaning, I am not sure if after modded it would sit/fit well.
The reflector is more suited for 3535 leds that 5050.

Comparison with XP-L2 and XP-G2 (notice that with XP-G2 you must use a gasket):

Yeah true and looks like L2 needs a bit of work. Okay will check out gaskets and 5050’s and maybe Luxeon too.
Btw, your Skillhunt in your photo looks real good with the blue glass ring and blue button ring. I like the contrast between the blue and then all black! :+1:

:stuck_out_tongue: Sorry all, I meant XP series led and not XM series led. Must off been too excited when I started the thread and missed some details.
At least I got info on variety of things from everyone before I caught my mistake.

XP-L HD and XP-L2 will probably give you the highest output (within the 3V CREE leds), but can generate some tint shift, even if this reflector is Orange Peel.
XP-L HI would be a good choice , you wouldn’t have problems with opening the reflector and they have almost none tint shift.

Yesterday I had trouble with the Luxeon on Convoy T2 and had to replace it. After thinking for a while I decided myself for a XP-L and I don’t regret (even if I ’d prefer the Luxeon V or V2).

Hope this helps in some way!

This host kind of reminds me of the sofirn sf10, which is a very decent light for the money.

Hey that Sofirn S10 looks nice. It's got XPG2 so good to add to ones collection. I basically have Cree, SST, Nichia lights so a different tint and color would be a nice change. But how XPG2 look? rosy? lava? I just don't know.

As for the XP series, I decided on the SST20 2700k. I'm starting to dig the look. It'll be good for stuff at night in bed like getting up or looking for things etc... Gonna power it up with...

plus

because I like the tiny and efficient default mode

and finally add a film of DC-Fix like on my HL01

so the spill will be just right.

Those are great lights. Still chunky but they work well on NiMh. Good kid lights. Mine put them on neck lanyards when they are out at night in the summer. Cheap enough that I don’t care if they lose them. :+1:

Unfortunately the Sofirn SF10 (and similar lights) has been unavailable for some months now! I do concur that it is a chunky resistant light

Here’s how it looks compared to other AA lights:

Sofirn SF10 >>> Sofirn SF14 >>> Convoy T2 >>> Jaxman E3 >>> Lumintop Tool AA V2.0

Sofirn SF10 >>> Convoy T2

Convoy T2 vs Olight M1T Raider (CR123a/16340)
(just because being a small or slim battery won’t mean that the light will be slim or small, right? )

As many have mentioned already, the host is a Convoy T2. After wasting an hour trying to sand down a 16mm copper core MCPCB (to shove an XH=P 50.2 in there  ) I contacted Simon, who was willing to send me 10 of the 15-ish mm MCPCBs he uses in the T2 for free if I bought anything else.

He’s wonderful.

Yeah looking at the flashlight comparison above it does look beefy. That’s ok with me. I like the simplistic design and ease of modding. Too bad no other colors though.

I also contacted Simon about the 15mm pcb. Hope he’s around today so I can bug him some.

Are there any good alkaline/NiMH-only drivers with decent mode spacing and low moonlight / firefly that would fit this host?

Few and far between. Banggood is about the only source I’ve found for low voltage boost drivers. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet so I can’t comment on quality. Let me know if you find a good source somewhere.

So much talk about the host, yet Hank33 “forgot” to link it in the opening post:

I have also noticed an S3 21700 host, available in black, desert sand and purple:

http://kaidomain.com/Flashlight-DIY-and-Tools/diy-flashlight-shell-or-flashlight-host/DIY-S3-21700-LED-Flashlight-Host-126mm-x-27mm

I have an S21A grey host on the way home from Simon, and I'm not gonna say I want to change it LoL but…

Nice to know Simon has weird ∅15 mm MCPCBs for this, he also lists these 3030 reflector gaskets for ∅9 mm hole, whereas 3030 reflector gaskets for ∅7 mm hole are listed at Kaidomain…

I know Sofirn sells just the driver for the SP10S which is also a AA/14500 host. The there’s this but I don’t think it’s got moonlight/firelfly mode.

Warning, the SP10S is an e-switch light. It’s driver will not work for clickies like the T2.

I’m still waiting for the parts to arrive, but at the recent request of a BLF member, I put together an extremely basic 1-mode 17mm low-output boost driver. I think the T2 is the target host. Kinda “joule thief” style. Intention being simplicity and efficiency with the ability to drain a cell. I hope for the parts to be in within the next week or two. Can’t wait to test it out. If all goes well, I’ll publish the Oshpark boards and can also build a few on request.

Thanks for the e-switch warning. yeah if you can build some drivers for these host that be coo! Seems there lots of drivers galore for 18650 and up style flashlights but for AA/14500, not so much?
