Is the MT G2 emitter still relevant? Do you prefer 4000k or 5000k?
Which single MT G2 light do you reccomend?
The Acebeam K40m is available for $100 and comes highly recommended. I’m not sure if its too throwy for me, though. The Haiklite MT 01 seems to be discontinued.
The MT G2 emitter is not a `throwy` emitter.
I have a Malkoff light with it as well as a P60 drop in for my Surefire 9P.
Love the tint and brightness, not so much the floodiness of the beam.
I`ve never taken it outside to measure the throw but again, it`s not a throwy LED.
From what I understand is (rule of thumb) the larger the LED, the more `floody` it is.
Your post reminded me I have a Shadow JM26. Used a MT-G2 (I’m 98% sure…)
Runs off 2 26650 batts (which usually reside in my Convoy L6).
I think Hank used to sell them. A few years ago now.
Big floody beam. Still holds up pretty well I think.
Thanks for reminding me I had it.
The MTG2 is showing its age so unless you want a good color accuracy and beam, go with the xhp70.2 or even a xhp50.2. As far as brightness, an xhp70.2 at 6v will be brighter and more efficient. At higher drive currents the difference is even more. In fact, if driven hard, an xhp50.2 3v is nearly as bright as the MTG2 and throws farther.
I’m still kicking this idea around, and kicking myself for not buying the K40m for $100. I want a p36 but I might buy a Klarus G30. The Eagletac SX25L3 is also available for high-retail but I don’t like the idea of the huge swivel head unless its really snug.
