Which MT G2 light?

Opposite. Smaller emitters (SSTs, white-flats, blah blah) are throwiest with their teenytiny chips.

Just mentioned the glorious MT-G2 in the other thread…

Don’t recall which lights use[d] the MT-G2 off the rack, as most I’ve seen were mods (eg, in a F13 host, etc.).

D`oh! I meant to say the larger the more floody (fixed)
Nitecore EC4SW used the MT G2 LED

The K40m is widely recommended here, but it is large, and I wonder if its really a thrower.

Your post reminded me I have a Shadow JM26. Used a MT-G2 (I’m 98% sure…)
Runs off 2 26650 batts (which usually reside in my Convoy L6).
I think Hank used to sell them. A few years ago now.
Big floody beam. Still holds up pretty well I think.
Thanks for reminding me I had it.

K40M is brilliant light. Plenty of light, long runtime.
I also modded my Thrunite TC-20 to MT-G2. Plug and play. Nice little flooder.

I think the new M21C XHP70.2 would make a great MTG-2 host

One of my favourite MTG2 lights is the Nitecore P36

+1 for P36. Great light.

got a KDlitker 8,2. originally with xhp50.2
put a mgt2 5000k from hank with a 9mm hole ref
very nice

The MTG2 is showing its age so unless you want a good color accuracy and beam, go with the xhp70.2 or even a xhp50.2. As far as brightness, an xhp70.2 at 6v will be brighter and more efficient. At higher drive currents the difference is even more. In fact, if driven hard, an xhp50.2 3v is nearly as bright as the MTG2 and throws farther.

you can’t compare the tint from a XHPx0.2 with a MTG2

up to certain current it will be as bright as a XHP50.2

but the MTG2 needs a very big reflector or it will be too floody

as a led it might be obsolete but the light it creates has very high quality

xhp70.2 tint shift is so shitty. I wonder how anyone could like that…

I can live with it because it does 4500lm out of a single emitter at pretty tame drive currents.

By the urine-yellow corona, etc., it looks to me like the ’70.2 is just quad G3s in the same package.

Oh, here we go… LED test / review - Cree XLamp XHP70.2 P2 40E (4000 K) - The second generation of extreme overcurrent and light flux capability?

In a word, eww.

« unless you want a good color accuracy and beam »
Yea dont think color accuracy and beam are details
Love my mgt2/c8

I’m still kicking this idea around, and kicking myself for not buying the K40m for $100. I want a p36 but I might buy a Klarus G30. The Eagletac SX25L3 is also available for high-retail but I don’t like the idea of the huge swivel head unless its really snug.

Is any XHP70.2 light a good MT G2 host?

When you spend enough time on the internet, you find things that can’t be real:

2020 NITECORE P36 CREE MT-G2 LED Flashlight

If you’re comfortable doing a host, there are some for a lot cheaper than the Nitecore. Try a Convoy M21C host for like $30. Takes 20mm mcpcb and 22mm driver, or just buy a M26C for like $8 more and swap the LED for the MTG2. Or go with the L21A host that would give more throw. They’d use the same drivers (boost) at around 4.5 A for the 6v xhp70.2. Get them on the Convoy store on Aliexpress. All take 21700 cells.

The problem is the reflector opening, even the XHP70.2 version is small and will sit over the led

Thrunite TC20. Direct led swap, you can boost current too if you want.
