S2+ And 5A Sound Decent?

I put together a thrower with smo reflector and SST40 6500K using a H17A driver. Led up to 5A. Driver max 5A. With regards to heat and usability, how's this combo? I left it on Turbo for a min and it's warm but not hot. This was outside @ 11° C.

It really depends on the intended use, some may think 5A is way too high, where others might think the opposite.
Personally I think it’s a good current for the SST40, but the host can’t handle the heat for more than a few minutes, it will be curling iron hot after a while

Wish that h17a came with some customizability like memory off/on and mode orders

Okay looks great then. :) I’ll be putting it in the car so it’s for occasional use. Like using it for night address searching or something. Yeah memory mode would be nice too. Hmmm maybe I’ll try the Blf a6 driver. :)

Try this one from the Convoy Store on AE and ask Simon for Biscotti firmware.

I’m using Convoy’s ramping driver with SST-40 on my S2+
I don’t really feel the heat from my soldered mcpcb compared to a BLF A6 driver. As for brightness it felt a tad brighter compared to 8*AMC7135 biscotti driver

Checking the tail with my best battery peaking about 3.8amps while with BLF A6 driver can hit about 6A with noticeable brightness (and tint shift)

But of course if I’m using either of these on turbo for more than 2 mins all lights get uncomfortably hot

According to KD's H17A specifications:

3. Smart Thermal Management Function

Auto adjust the LED output current to maintain stability and achieves the high performance

This means temperature control. If Hank33 decides to test his S2+ on high for maybe 2 or 3 minutes, we could for sure know if the driver has temperature regulation. I say this because it's not the first time the specifications at Kaidomain are bogus, just look at this further down the above:

2. The max current from battery can be over 10A, high drain battery is recommended for this driver.

Which of course is wrong.

Oh I like that driver, and with Biscotti too! Plus Simon’s so cool too! Good to the the amps range for this light as per above cuz I wouldn’t want the S2+ to start shooting flames one day.
Yeah I actually have one driver that refuses to work right. Feels like it’s missing a component or something lol.
