What does Sofirn mean?

Heh! Reminded me of this prank from a few years ago:

yes to me that name is impossible to pronounce…

Not to german ears.

Barry, make a video about how to pronounce Sofirn  .

some of you have already read this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Chinglish-Translation-Oliver-Lutz-Radtke/dp/1423603354

Let me help you - in my language it should be pronounced hła-łej
Just two Chinese symbols: 华 means magnificent, splendid, it is the last symbol in the God’s name; 为 means to become, bo be, to do.
In Pinyin: Huá wéi ; so it should be both pronounced on the 2nd tone (almost like when asking: “hua? wei?”

Hope I helped

“Wah-Way”

Always liked Datsun better than Nissan.

As to the Sofirn Q8 I left a review on Amazon, "Don't ask questions, just get it!"

I'd prefer an original Chinese name for the brand "Sofirn", too. I like a name like Xiaomi (pronounced /ˈʃaʊmiː/ Chinese: 小米 [ɕjǎu.mì])

As an alternative, I'd suggest a more catchy name like "LUXAPOWER" (that name does not seem to be registered yet, knock on wood).

Does Xiaomi produce flashlights? I mean, is there ANYTHING they do not produce?

Luxapower? naw, too generic.

Sure.

Although I think it’s primarily a power bank.

They also sell lights under the NexTool brand:

Or “ksow-mee”.

Actually, when we think about brand name, it’s difficult to find a great name that is not used. To avoid that, most people combine words but making the brand name long. Some products are too small for printing a long name. So, think some unique word is a way. The pronounciation and meaning are not considered. Find a name that is not registered is the first step.

Actually use Chinese name is not a bad idea but many Chinese don’t like using Chinese name as brand name like Calvin Klein in USA. Because we are too shy to do that or not confident.

It reminds me many Chinese choose foreign symbols or words as tatoo, even though they don’t know the meaning. I know some NBA players’ tatoo is Chinese.

ThorFire is not a name from me, I didn’t like it at first, but I got used to it. ARCHEER is a brand name by me, but there is an old brand name ARCHER which is very similar. It is really difficult to think a short, meaningful, easy to pronouce, great name. It drives me crazy.

Barrysail is a name in my mind when it comes a brand name related to myself but Barry is not my real name. If translate my Chinese name directly into English, it will be Flying Dragon :person_facepalming:

Well Dragons breathe fire and fire produces light, so how about Dragonbreath?

Come to think of it, Think I dated her sister.

Actually "western dragon" and "Chinese Loong" are different.

Names for flashlights should be about light like Suncandle.

Actually, these pictures remind me of Smaug, the dragon from the fantasy novel "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Well, there you go. That’s a good name for a brand, alas, probably already taken.

ArseFire™, so classy.

Er, where were we? O:)

i often what mind altering substances some of these guys were on when naming a product.
like a japanese radio shipped with a “flying bomb” battery.
this after we showed them 2 real bombs.
