S2+ King Of The Mountain Led??

What’s the bestest 6500K led that’ll give the farthest brightest throw in a smo S2+?. It’s gotta work with a 17mm driver and I don’t mind if it gets super hot super fast. No triples or quads, just a 1 led setup. Plus I’ll be using a BL A6 driver.

SST20 or XPL-HI. I’d err on the XPL-HI to avoid super-green.

maybe a sst40

I would recommend the Luminus SST-40 N5 6500K LED. This is the description Mountain Electronics has:

  • The SST-40 is a super-high power output 3V nominal LED. If your goal is maximum output from a 3V LED without concern for overall efficiency or heat, then this is the one you’re looking for! Capable of 2,000+ lumens direct-drive with an FET driver @ 7-8A.

And if you want even more throw you can slice the dome, but that will also lower the CCT.

I have a question would you consider a Osram CSLNM1.TG though the output would be less than the SST-40 variant but throw in the light should exceed that of the SST-40

So glad I read that, if not a bit late since I already ordered sst20 triple last night lol - did know what the difference was 20/40 - now I do lol!
Maybe I’ll get a triple of that 40 later on.

The SST40 is XM size and uses an MCPCB designed for XM LEDs

I've not seen an XM MCPCB in 16mm or 20mm for a triple LED build. Maybe there are some made for specific flashlights?

Usually the triples on 16mm and 20mm are 3535 LED Compatible.

I've built triple S2+ using XPL Hi 1A,XPL Hi 1B,XPG3 S5 3C and Samsung LH351D 5000k using Noctigon 3XP MCPCB.

The XPL Hi 1A is the brightest while the Samsung LH351D 5000k is my favorite.

All have had Hoop's copper pill and Carclo 10507 optics in them.

For the week that I used it, the tint’s not bad for a 6500K. The usual white light with a nice even tint spot. I’m building a Samsung LH351D 3500K next. Try out the different tir lenses from Simon. Hmmm wonder how the tint of an XP-L HI 3000K compares with the LH351D?

I tried many leds in s2+. flat white has most throw by far. But downside is heat and difficult to center. But even without perfect centering it will outthrow xpl hi.

But it will never be a real thrower.

Sub’d!

ive a few sst40s in convoys s2s

one is 6500k and its super white and throws quite nicely

and a 5000k that throws and nice tint

ive got a triple nichia 219c 4000k also and thats nice

convoy s2 so underated!

love them

ive a few for sale

How about when it comes to triples? Whats the current king for brightness and tint?
219c’s seem to be the common favourite!

3030 Osram ∅7 mm hole reflector centering gaskets can be obtained now, at Kaidomain for example (hope you like the new gasket naming convention I suggested BanL in his thread). And Simon Mao (Convoy) sells 3030 gaskets for ∅9 mm hole, by the way. :-)

to really throw you need a reflector about 4x the diameter and 4x the length

then anything would work

wle

I’m running a Convoy boscotti S2+ with SST-20 and OP reflector and its still quite throwy. I actually really like that light, great tint and CRI and a very useful throwy but balanced beam. I had a S2+ with XPL HI and smo reflector and never cared for the beam. Wasn’t that much tighter than my OP but had a LOT of tint shift and rings.

Actual beam profile differences between smooth and orange peel reflectors are rather small, this means a smooth reflector is just a tiny bit more throwy than an orange peel one. Orange peel reflectors, however, make smooth beams without rings or other artifacts which may be quite noticeable with certain emitters and/or gasket configurations using smooth reflectors.
