The making of the BLF UC4 charger: the start of a new venture, INTEREST LIST, UPDATE 7 (Well, ramping stopped :/ )

Well, I have been working on something, but due to some changes to my financial situation(quite bad actually) and school, I haven’t been on BLF at all.

I’ve been mostly focusing on working as much as possible before I get no work at all since the beginning of the last month, so did not provide any update at all, sorry.

The one thing I’ve been working on is actually the internal buck converter and boost converter design.

I understand if that you have been due for an update, but due to difficult times, this has to be put on hold until at least mid April, if not the end of April at the worst.

Good luck in difficult times

Good luck with the life hurdles. And thanks for the update. As we all know it’s the updates that lets the follows know the health of projects like this.

Would you be able to pass along some tasks to other BLF members? It sounds like this is no longer a existing product upgrade, but instead a start from scratch effort. I don’t think that can be done by one person with other things going on in their life.

Yes, you are on the list for 1.

I’d like to request that people check the list (HERE) themselves before asking someone else to check for them  . The list is permanently linked in the second thread post HERE. Thanks to everyone for helping the list maintainer with this  .

Some folks have 3 or more posts requesting a single slot in the group buy, resulting in 3X the work for the maintainer, BlueSwordM. I realize that no one does this on purpose and that it’s normal to forget during long projects, but if you want to be in a group buy and can’t remember if you’ve been added or not, then checking for your name on the list is not too much to ask. If the list is hard to find, then search the thread for your own username to see prior requests and responses. Again, thank you.

Hang in there, tough times don’t last.

Count me in please for 1 BLF UC4

interested in 2 please

I’ve been on the interest list for this BLF Charger for most of a year. I’ve also been ready and willing to help in any way I can.
But it’s become clear this is not a BLF Charger. It’s one-man’s side project. And that man has better things to worry about, understandably.
This project is gasping for air and refusing help. Please take me off the interest list, I’ve lost all interest.

Ah, no, this is staying as a BLF project.

Just not doing anything until the end of April.

I understand if you don’t want to do anything here, especially because of my lack of response.

Anyway, you guys and gals are right. After I restart the project, I will get some help here.

And I did make some steps toward that: IRL, I got a friend who is much better in CAD than me, so that’ll help immensely.

UPDATE 5: A REALIZATION

I just realized what JoshK and what WalkToTheLite meant.

A one-man project to this calibre, to make a commercial product, is very hard to do, especially on my own time, which has become shorter compared to last year. And can easily fail.

So, after my exams end, I will fully commit to this project, and get some very helpful members, IRL and from here I hope.

I feel for the BLF LT1 project team, and what they’ve accomplished is amazing. Went from one single man, to an entire team for just one product.

So, I’ve decided to change my working methods. Rather than working alone and without clear goals, I have to work with others, and set clear goals, however small they may be.

I think that last part is especially important, as I initially put in a lot of effort into the project, but that effort was not put in equally as the weeks went on, which resulted in stagnation.

Overall, I am proud of the steps taken until this point, but not that the progress basically stopped last year. This is unacceptable.

So, give me another chance, and I will redeem myself amongst this community for the BLF UC4.

Current BLF UC4 Team:

- BlueSwordM.

- Debraramamu(IRL friend who will help in CAD).

- Rost333(if he ever comes back).

If any people want to help in any way, that would be lovely.

Take your time and do it right, and thank you for the work. The blf lt1 took forever. No worries here, wish I could help but this is way above me.

Dude, it’s all good. Do it once and do it right. Your exams of course have to come first.

If people want to leave the GB and spend twice the amount on something half as good, let them.

The poor (or impatient) man buys twice.

I am excited to see this project, definitely interested in one!

Can’t wait to see what you guys can produce

Interested on getting 1 unit as well!

Interested in 1 thanks

I find no reason for you to excuse yourself.

So, after a manufacturer fled because this project was probably too demanding for them, what's the new aim?

That manufacturer probably also didn't like that the stuff was incredibly good for the given target price. Other manufacturers may also fear this, doesn't it?

Ah, no, it’s not in relation to this I’m excusing myself. Just the lack of communication on my part.

The new aim is to have an actual realistic design that can be built in a functional prototype. That will give me a large leverage over manufacturers.

Since DLYFull left me dry, I do have another option though.

It’s totally okay if people want to be taken off the interest list. Don’t take it personally or as a condemnation if they aren’t satisfied with a project that they weren’t developing. Remove them from the list and go on.

It’s also totally okay for BlueSwordM to operate on his own until assistance becomes useful or required. He should ask for input and contribution when and where he needs it.

BlueSwordM did announce that the project was on hold, so people should not be surprised that it has not progressed since then. Yes, there were times when communication may have been scarce, but our project leader is obviously a busy, poor college student who has many of the same survival concerns as millions of other people in the world right now.

And if it becomes obvious that there is no practical way to complete this charger, then BlueSwordM should end the project. We probably aren’t there, yet, as he’s still interested and committed, but primarily lacks the time and a manufacturer. If either interest or commitment wanes or no manufacturer can be found after a reasonable search, then he should cancel the UC4.

None of this reflects poorly on anyone, even DLYFull, as they have the right to do as they wish.

Until money changes hands, no one owes anybody anything. If a volunteer project stops being fun, then stop doing the project, even if 5,000 people are signed up on the interest list.
