The reason to mod stuff is to improve them to your needs.
At least that’s what I tell to myself (and to others) if I succeed.
Otherwise it’s just tinkering, see how it works and see if you can make it personal.
Some things might not work, who cares, most of the sports guys never win a price, they still enjoy doing it.
Anyways, for the oil mod I think it’s best to use a solar watch with a screwed back, no need to do it again, or as in my case, use a nurse’s watch that I found some time ago. If it leaks, trash bin, if not, a smile or raised eyebrows from my colleagues
The cheapest analog solar watch I’ve found so far is the Alba AEFD557 for <$50
My Traser P5900 though needs a new movement. In Germany I could get it done for ~€20 (the movement is <$10)
Here in Switzerland the air gun shop (local Traser dealer) wouldn’t even touch it before putting down 100 Swiss Francs (same in .
So maybe I borrow my workmates watch set, get myself the hand removal tools and a Ronda movement and do it myself.
I wouldn’t worry about most issues with something that’s such an insulator and so inert. Sure there could be corrosion issues over a long period of time, but losing a $20 watch isn’t the end of the world.
No actual idea why these are so expensive. Plastic-by-weight is surely not the thing here.
However there ARE a lot of knock-off brands/brandless ones to get overseas but I think they lack some quality and durability + functions.
I´m a mechanical watch person, so to say.
The thing is that I bought a bit over one year ago a G-Shock 5610 (which I have loathed before). I needed a “beater” for some upcoming work trips.
Stupid as it sounds, but it has been on my wrist ever since :zipper_mouth_face:
When I bought it: 1) way too large 2) way too plasticy 3) this & that & no analog etc.
Now: wth, it works. Has always power. Knows always correct time. Looks “retro-enough”. These things dont come granted with all mechanicals.
Nice Promaster! I just picked up my first Citizen a few days ago. It’s been great so far but I’m not a fan of the bracelet it came on so I’m thinking I might try it on canvas.
I am sure you will be pleased with the performance of your new Citizen … great watch all around. I am a fan of canvas straps and it would wear much more comfortably than a SS bracelet. I have attached a photo of one of my canvas setups.
You can upload to imgur.com and then it provides you with a link (or just right click on image and “copy image address”) that you can embed here by clicking the button with the little sunset picture above the text box and enter the url.
imgur is easy and free
no you cannot conveniently upload a file directly to budgetlightforum postings
makes it cheaper to run the web site i guess, not having to have space for big images
