Updating BLF Home top banner

Wouldn’t it be time to renew or modernize the BLF home page banner? Those lights (BLF X6, SRK and SK68) are somewhat dated… Maybe a banner that does not focus on particular light models but on light itself? A contest?

No big deal either. It just looks a bit “dusty”…
What do you think?

Yeah it looks very dated and perhaps that SRK and SK68 isn’t the best we might want to show to new visitors. I kinda got used to it so I don’t mind.

I think there was a similar petition years ago but everyone wanted a different banner design or light choices and nothing was done in the end. I know that several active members here are very good with graphic design, but making it to the liking of everyone is impossible.

If it does get updated with newer flashlights, I vote for the FW3A.

Chuckle. I’ve been wondering when this would come up for a while.

I’d suggest going retro — a candle lantern, a kerosene lamp, and a carbide lamp — at least for one day a year.

Leave it alone—wasn’t hurting anybody the way it was.

I’d say either remove pictures of specific lights, and have a logo or graphic designed banner, or have BLF designed/organised lights on show to new visitors. Maybe a poll/vote for which lights should be included.

Update it with a set of pictograms/simple illustrations of all the types/shapes of flashlights available.

I’ll second that. I think it would be great to have some of the newer lights that were born from BLF.
On the other hand, I been around here for awhile and understand that some things become part of the history of this place and are hard to let go to some of us old timers.
I just feel like that to keep up to date for new members the more recent BLF project lights would be more appropriate.

I’ll third it – that’s a good idea – maybe make a new one which includes the old ones (although I’m not fussed either way) then it might please everyone. I’m sure someone on here owns one of those 3 if more photo’s were needed (at same angle etc)

I like the lighthouse logo from the LT1. A lighthouse is a positive, friendly symbol.

Maybe just a full row with ALL BLF lights? Not letting go the old ones, but adding new ones too. Win-win, no?
Lighthouse logo would be also nice, keeping it simple and stuff.

Well, two out of three are even from before my time, I guess. I go straight to “recent posts” so basically I don’t care. But I can imagine when you tell someone about BLF, and he/she comes to homepage, he/she might get a bit confused. Because this is Budgetlightforum, not Cheapoldlightforum.
Quality of BLF is A-OK, but the first impression might need an update.
I suggest the FW3A, the LT1 and one of the prizewinning creations of our top modders

You are a flashaholic if you are forced to come out of the closet, to make room for more flashlights.

Agree with you Henk. Maybe some winners of the OL contest too over the past few years? just an idea, since we mod too.

in a way i like the SRK being on the home page.. that was the first light that really set LED flashlights apart; it was the true Sky Ray King.

Some of us that have been here forever remember our first SRK (or the FandyFire as it’s known in my family)

Yeh, that’s kinda the point. The SRK was a pioneer in that sense. The ’68 was one of the first cheap-but-good lights (even if shamelessly watered-down even more, later). The X6 is still almost revered by a lot of people.

It’d be like trying to “freshen” the penny by giving Lincoln a mullet in the ’70s, high-hair in the ’80s, or a pair of hipster Warby-Parkers today.

Might as well give Venus de Milo a tramp-stamp…
