COPPER - Special Edition by Wuben

Hi Folks,
what do you think about this project?

The specs so far:

  • Samsung LH351D 4000K High CRI
  • 14500 and NiMH-Support
    • 3 levels on NiMH
    • 4 Levels on 14500
    • about 650lm (14500)
  • starts on low, memory or highest level
  • instant-Turbo and back to last level with double-click
  • PWM-free
  • lockout by keeping pressed about 3 secs from off
  • power indicator in the switch

To do:

  • Clip removable
  • switch-surrounding blue ring change to stainless
  • body-to-switch-alignment like the copper version (the reason for the gap between head and tube, tube is bit loosen)
  • completely unglued - therefore water resistance not absolutely given
  • engravement on the larger fields (side body) with number of the limited version (i.e. 1/100)

Looks very “inspired” by the Reylight Lan. The clip and tail are almost identical!

Very clean modable pocket light. Removeable SS clip is a big plus. I would love to see a photo of one of the CU versions loaded with trit tubes. I would be interested in one of each depending on the price.

very attractive lights, both the brass and the copper variant.

Clip needs to be different. Not sure about the Samsung, but it could be replaced if it’s again as greenish as in the E05-I. Switching off by long press is ok if it’s much, much faster than a second. Refer to Lumintop EDC 05 where it takes less than half a second.

But … may I say that I find it a little ugly?

I like the copper one

But I have some doubts:
1)

Will the light have SMO or OP reflector? The Samsung LH351D 5000K originates some tint shift under SMO reflectors. I am not sure of the 4000K also does it, but I’d consider using an Orange Peel reflector!

2)

What does this mean? We can start in any level by interacting differently with the switch?

One of the things that make the regular Wuben E05 not being my “perfect” EDC is that it has memory, so I can’t always start on the lowest level.
I would be getting one of these cells if it did have that possibility to always start on the lowest (even if it had the possibility to also start on other modes)!

I’m liking this light

EDIT: I subscribe the option to click for ON/OFF and click & hold for cycling through modes.

Please ”hold” for cycling, ”single clic” for off and not ”single clic” for cycling, ”hold” for off.
Cycling directly from off with ”hold” would be even better, like on Zebralight or anduril, but that means putting the lockout somewhere else.

Aside from that, it looks nice, but like Treellama said it heavily inspired from Reylight Lan, so much that it mostly looks like a side switch version of it, could use some originality.

Looks nice, although I think the clip design should be changed. What’s with the square outline on the body tube? It looks a little haphazard. I would add vertical cross tube grooves in it, to add some grip capability. I’d like to see a 2-group UI, where one is ramping. Much like what other makers are starting to provide. It’s nice to have that flexibility.

Reylight inspired.

I like it, especially after owning a T050R. Wuben is top quality, easily comparable to big companies like Fenix, Nitecore, Thrunite, etc…

I don’t need another AA light but if (and only IF…) they can have the lighted switch always on to act as a locator, I’ll buy the copper version. I never came across an AA light with a locator.

The UI:

  • from Off:
    • click > memory
    • doubleclick > Turbo
    • long press (about 0,7 sec) > low
    • extra long press (2 sec) > lockout (after low)
  • from on:
    • click > change brightness (L-M-H-T-L...)
    • doubleclick > Turbo - doubleclick > back to last level
    • long press (about 0,7 sec) > off

I like the copper version.

I like the look of the brass! I would definitely prefer click for on/off but I can live with hold for off if it’s less than one second.

I rather have copper Wuben E05 rather than clone design. Forget those tritium slots, they are useless for most people.

0.7 s are too much time.

:+1:

Unless you’re working directly with Reylight on a collaboration, this isn’t cool.

If you are, this is awesome.

Well, that would at least make the flashlight thiner, what would be nice thing for weight and carrying. It would eventually lose some mass to dissipate heat, though :zipper_mouth_face:

so….
another china mystery
does Wuben buy hosts from the same place Reylight buys their hosts?

personally, no interest in sideswitch, and no interest in the Wuben UI

Rey worked for Wuben for some time

Any way to add magnetic connector for charging via usb??

I’m interested.
Is it you running it or Wuben, or are you speaking for Wuben?
The clip is fine, it is already removable enough - it’s a nice clip, and believe me I’m not keen on clips.
