COPPER - Special Edition by Wuben

Any way to add magnetic connector for charging via usb??

Iā€™m interested.
Is it you running it or Wuben, or are you speaking for Wuben?
The clip is fine, it is already removable enough - itā€™s a nice clip, and believe me Iā€™m not keen on clips.

I'd definitely be up for a Copper manufactured by Wuben - they make very high-quality products. A good step above Sofirn/Wurkkos in my book, judging design aesthetics, anodising, milling/machining, etc.

Are we sure that this would be a clone, and doesn't signify Wuben as an OEM? (No accusations here, just don't know the history/relationship between various factories & brands).

UI preferences are subjective, unless there are functional-impacting decisions. Olight have a consistent and functional UI which is basic and muggle friendly. Whilst Open UIs like Anduril are complex and extensively configurable. I've been looking for a middle ground with the button-modes and configuration options that sit somewhere in the middle.

Recently I've come to like some UIs that seem like "cut-down Anduril", leaving options like swapping between Smooth ramping and Stepped output, whilst leaving out some of the configuration complexities. (Perhaps they are using Anduril code outside of the license - I've suspected this due to the almost identical flash at each end of the smooth ramping - but I wouldn't know for sure.)

E.g. Wurkkos FC11 (updated UI version). Sofirn IF25 (non-Anduril edition).

For Sofirn I do like their double-button interface (TO46R), however this is nothing that can't be achieved with a dual-stage (camera-shutter style) button.

  • Clip already looks removeable (ring around threads ala FW3A). Am I missing something from your proposal? This is better than friction fit that could scratch when turning or removing.
  • Where the body etching/pattern is not consistent around the entire circumference, it should align with any switch, etching or trit-holes in the head/tail. Not so bad if it's just regular knurling, but misalignment of detailed patterns does in my OCD! Recognising this is difficult to achieve in mass-production due to dependence on threads and subtle filing adjustments.

ARH

Maybe buy a different light altogether then, rather than asking for this one to be changed in every respect. You already want the clip changed and maybe the ledā€™s, maybe the switch and driver config and also find it uglyā€¦ā€¦. why would you even be interested? :stuck_out_tongue:
Bit much asking for the entire thing to be changed donā€™t you think?

Ger-slash asked for our opinions. If mine is not positive, does this disqualify me for posting here?

Edit: What about the other contributors that had doubts about the Reylight clip or the UI? Or the one who wrote he rather had a E05 in copper? Whatā€™s so special about my post that you picked it? English is not my native language obviously, so Iā€™m honestly open for any hints on what Iā€™m doing wrong.

Long press for off = NO BUY :confounded:

This kills it for me. Love the E05 but donā€™t hardly use it because of the HOLD for off. As mentioned before ā€” click for off and hold to cycle.

Interested if you change the reylight clip. Shortcut to low and single click for off.

I would prefer following changes:

UI:

  • single click = ON/OFF (no mode memory)
  • long press (from ON) = cycle modes (low - med - high), or ramp up/down
  • long press (from OFF) = moonlight (0.1lm - 0.5lm)
  • doubleclick (from ON/OFF)= Turbo
    • => another click: return to previous mode
    • => another double click: SOS
    • => another double click: Beacon
  • 4x click (from OFF) = e-lockout ON/OFF
  • 6x click (from OFF) = cycle mode groups (stepped modes or ramping)

Alternatively, I would also prefer some stripped AndĆŗril like RampingIOS 2.0.

Lens:

Are there any pictures of the front available. Maybe Wuben can check using a single TIR lens for a better beam profile (smooth hotspot with less spill, less artifacts/tintshift compared to SMO/OP reflector).

Material:

Well, I'm not a fan of heavyweight metal like copper. For a small, sturdy and relatively low-powered keychain light titanium might be much more interesting, being not as heavy as copper but tougher against wear and tear as well as impacts. For people with very deep pockets Wuben could use something like Mokume Gane, see Reylight's LAN for reference...

Sorry, I didnā€™t mean to sound rude or pick you out - my point was he is asking for opinions on an existing light , which is in the op.
When you want virtually every bit about it changed then go on to say itā€™s ugly (so presumably you donā€™t care for the shape either), I just wondered why youā€™d even want it anyway? you seem to like nothing about it as is.
Sorry, my thoughts ran away with me is all. Again, I apologise for that.

Now for my thoughtsā€¦ā€¦ :person_facepalming:
Iā€™d rather it had the clip as in the photo, more so itā€™s removable like the fw3a - not a clip on one. The clip as in the photo is fine, nice and strong, easy to remove.
Iā€™d rather it didnā€™t have a million click UI - just something simple and reliable with no silly sos, blinkies, lightshows, 30 different moonlights etc etc. This isnā€™t that type of light for me.
Trit holes - way too many vs the price of the light. If unfilled they can look bare and silly and only a tiny tiny amount of people can afford to fill all of them, so itā€™s pointless - 1 or 2 yes. Maybe make the trit tailcap an option to keep the price down - thereā€™s a lot of operations and time involved in doing all those holes - maybe reducing it could reduce the price too. Lights with that many trit holes are for people with lots of disposable income.

No problem, G0OSE. I donā€™t know the background and thought, it was just a prototype and ger-slash finding out what people think. With slight changes to the pattern on the tube, it would be much better in my eyes. But one has to see it in reality, of course.

If possible, please change the UI. Long press to cycle through modes and click for off. Also, please donā€™t clone the ReyLight design. Make your own.

Are both colours copper? and is it single click for on/off? Roughly what price will it be?

There is no need to clone the reylight clip, it is not even a particularly good looking clip so it tells me itā€™s just laziness to design a new one. I am assuming wuben is also the ā€œOEM manufacturerā€ of reylight, the only reason they look so alike.

The power sign on the switch makes it look generic, and the UI could use some improvement like mentioned above.

Wubenā€™s perspective (speculation)

Boss says,
hey guys, lets sell some red and yellow copper lights
Rey is not moving enough of them, and we already have the LAN ReyLight CNC files.

Change the design to a sideswitch on the head, and add a couple lines around the body

lets sell some lights!

.

Staff says
any particular driver?

.

Boss says
whateverā€¦ get it done

and dont bother me about the clip
we already have a pile of them, Rey is not moving them out fast enoughā€¦
get them gone!

also, float some social media marketing on BLF and suchā€¦ maybe they want to do a group buy?

.

Staff says
Nooooo, boss please!
not a BLF group buy, those guys are nutsā€¦ first thing they do is argue about UIā€¦ all we hear lately is Anduril this, and Anduril thatā€¦

it takes years to float a project with those guysā€¦ besides, they dont put money up front, like Rey doesā€¦

.

Boss says:
ok, just run with it as is, put them on the AliEx store for what Ray pays usā€¦
I want these red and yellow copper bar stock out of here
lets sell some lights!

otherwise were gonna hafta twist up some mokume from the leftover materialsā€¦
get that stuff sold!

ROFL

This apart i like the light a lotā€¦ (donā€™t mind the UI), but havenā€™t seen the priceā€¦

As funny as it sounds Iā€™m sure this is the exact way things went

Lots of Inspiration from lumintop of courseā€¦

If I remembered correctly Wuben did produce a titanium e05 before. Will be great if they will offer a ti version of this light.

anduril UI!

and no copper, no brass!

jon_slider, I must admit youā€™re one of the funniest guys on BLF. Great illustration, indeed. :+1: :sunglasses:
