[Closed] Sofirn C01S with Nichia E21A 98CRI R9050/9080

in for 3500k

Would also prefer an AA version of it.
L-M-H driver, no mode memory, 4500K and 2000K without any green (slight rosy is fine).
I really like the Jetbeam MK-1 but hate the cool white emitter in it.
I also prefer to get rid of the holes for magnet and trit and make it compact as possible.
AAA lights are fine for in the house but not for taking outside in my opinion…
My light for in the house is a copper A01 in 5 anni version of the Italian forum, rosy 219b, very good mode spacing (Manker marked driver).

I think it would be a very nice flashlight, but it needs a new host and a new driver, and that probably means more units.

Maybe if there is enough interest we could make a separate thread and contact Sofirn to know if it could be made, and the minimum ammount of initial orders.

Interested, 3500-4500k

Interested in 2000K (or less)
This is a great idea.
Thanks.

So, looking back to what’s been posted so far, following bins are known to be more rosy than green and deserve a closer look:

2.000K
NVSLE21AT SM203-D160-L2-R9050

3.500K

NVSLE21AT SM353-D220-M1-R9080

4.500K

NVSLE21AT SM453-D220-L2-R9080

While experience so far is good with those ranks having decent to good tint, those numbers don’t guarantee the results across multiple batches, for example. Per Nichia’s datasheet, the results should be within a 3-step deviation from the center of the MacAdam ellipse. 3-steps could be significant.

Interested.

I couldn’t agree more with you but these are the bins I asked Sofirn to look for and at least we need to commit somewhere to get started. I‘m afraid it will be more than difficult for Sofirn to handpick the best, most rosy tint - especially with Nichia LEDs that are hard to source.

If these are priced anywhere near the C01S expectations of perfect tint should really be lowered. Worst case scenario, buy a couple and sell/gift the ones with tint that isn’t as good.

Even the “bad” E21As I’ve seen are worlds apart from the puke green Cree emitters I’ve seen used by Thrunite and some brands for their NW models.

Following the parallel discussions about tints in Hank‘s KR1/KR4 thread, maybe we should focus on two versions of C01S with E21A. 2.000K could be great for those who love incandescent, warmwhite light and 4.500K could be the best average white tint in relation to most situations in daylight or darkness.

I doubt that three tints are feasible - as much as I wish it was possible. So, two (most wanted) tints is maybe a good way to start with. As usual, please feel free to (dis)agree and share your thoughts. :-)

Make a poll?

I agree. If only 2 are feasible, then 2000K and 4500K are the best choices IMO.

3500K is my favorite

My vote for 2000K and 4500K.

It’s very sad to hear that, I really hoped for the 3500K version.

2000k for sure,I hope they will sell also these leds already soldered on boards on site

I will set up a poll for these three tints soon. Whether we get Sofirn convinced to offer THREE tints or only TWO tints will probably depend on...

A) the total accumulated demand of this light

B) if Sofirn‘s supplier(s) can get all tints we are asking for.

My guess is that we need to have at least 250 pcs of each tint to meet break-even.

Very interested in 2000K, please put me down for two, depending on price I could possibly buy three or more to gift some.

Ready made (not modded) 2000K CCT flashights seem pretty hard to find, so I think 2000K should definitely be offered and will fill a niche.

Very warm white flashlights being so unusual and difficult to find, a 2000K version would also make a great gift imho.

Definitely looking forward to seeing this flashlight materialise.

Update:

The poll is online: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/72885

OP is updated, too.
