POSTing long links, fails

Sometimes when trying to POST a long link like:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1428272-REG/yongnuo_yn560li_kit_yn560li_lithium_power_speedlite.html

The BLF software breaks the link up like it does above.
It breaks the link at one of the “-”

When it should be:
“HyperText-Blah-Blah://WorldWideWeb/bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1428272-REG/yongnuo_yn560li_kit_yn560li_lithium_power_speedlite.html”

Is there a way to get around this?
Thanks,
All the Best,
Jeff

You are just doing a copy/paste of the link when you should use the “insert link” button.
.

.

  • Fill the “link URL” with the URL address and the “link TEXT” with the same URL address :

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1428272-REG/yongnuo_yn560li_kit_yn560li_lithium_power_speedlite.html

- Fill the “link URL” with the URL address and the “link TEXT” with text :

Yongnuo YN560Li Lithium Speedlite with Batteries

Links with problem punctuation generally work with the Advanced Post Editor.

Ah Ha!
I was just doing the copy/paste dance. Never knew what that Icon was for.

Thanks for the help,

Jeff

tinyurl.com

I do not like URL shorteners. They can be used to obfuscate malicious links.

I advice to switch to the Advanced Post Editor. The Advanced Post Editor can do everything the Simple does, and additionally it doesn't chokes with links using non-ASCII characters (which are common nowadays).

It is wise to know how to use, how to handle reality. Letting something do for you what you should (at least) know how to deal with honestly and truly isn't.

I've suggested sb56637 to leave only the Advanced Post Editor (and Plain Text) in the forum, that would be of benefit as quoting messages from people which uses the other editor obliges to edit the text (the emojis work anyway in the Advanced Editor). Would you vote favorably for this in a poll? I think he sort of fears this but there's no real reason, in a couple days everyone would be adapted to.

Fully agree. Genuine URL all the way.

I just wonder if the Advanced Post Editor is too advanced for some computer newbies...

If not, I say get rid of the Simple Post Editor.

If anyone doesn’t like SPE, just don’t use it. Dunno why to “punish” people needlessly.

The advance editor is no big deal. Just ignore what you don't want to use.

I just hadn't run into the long link breaking up in the simple editor before.

I didn't realize there was a "Insert Link" Icon. That fixed things.

Jeff

I am a YONGNUO user for about 8yrs. Owned couple of YN560 ii-YN560iv in the past.

Getting rid of the simple post editor might make the screen harder to use for those who work from phones or other limited viewing area devices.
I say keep it.

The BBcode with easy markup language of the simple post editor is 2 decades old and pretty easy to use when you figured it up, there is nothing I wasn’t able to do with the simple post editor…keep it.

SPE and the icons for insert link, image, video, etc., work for most things and most non tech people. I like it the way it is; use advanced PE if you want or need, or not.

And I don’t like url shorteners either. I always wonder what they’re hiding.
