People that you personally know that have COVID-19

Wife’s cousin passed away three weeks ago from Covid. Have so far 5 deputies and about 20 officers in our department got it, all recovered or are recovering.

Another update:

"Jason" got tested for COVID-19 again, yesterday, and the test came back negative.

He was able to go back to work.

That means that his initial positive test must have been a false positive.

I'm very glad he will be okay.

So it turns out I don't personally know anyone with COVID-19...

Yet.

a couple of them

how does this anecdotal data help you (the OP original poster)?

i mean let;s say i know 1 person

or 10?

or 100?

what do you do with this random data?

Satisfies curiosity.

it;s like ‘what is the weather where you are?’

‘what are you eating?’

‘what are you wearing’?

A friend, the local county coroner. I think he his recovering OK.

I mainly wanted to talk about my family friend that I thought had COVID-19, and I figured it wouldn't hurt if other people talked about the same subject.

So far the thread has been very interesting to me so in my mind it's a good thread.

I wonder, and perplexed as well…if his case was a real false positive, meaning he never had it, what then is the reliability or even usefulness of such test?

I won’t be surprised with a false negative, for tests are not 100%, but a false positive? It’s just as scary.

What is your favorite school of psychology? What is your favorite healthy food? What is your favorite Led Zeppelin song? What is your favorite physical constant? What is your favorite neurotransmitter? What is your favorite book of the Old Testament? New? What Step are you on? What is your favorite subatomic particle? Do you like more kinds of flashlights than you hate? Do you think Good and Evil are absolutes or relative? What is your favorite unhealthy food? Do you like math, and if yes, what is you math level? In your own words, what is Newtons' third law of motion? If you could put a message in a bottle destined to another planet, what would it say? Another universe? Do Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz have the same moral to the story? What is life all about?

Jungian. Chocolate (dark). “The Immigrant Song”. Alpha. Acetylcholine, ’though I always had a fondness for dopamine. None really, as they’re all crabby. Revelations. 0th. Charm quark. No. Considering most of my relatives are evil, I’ll say relative. Peanut-butter cups. Yes, very big. When you push something, that something pushes back. “Help! I’m stuck on Sol 3, Orion Arm, and need immediate rescue!” Same, ’though I’d add “Milky Way” to the location. No, “Star Wars” can’t be played to “Dark Side Of The Moon”. Winning!

My dad who is 70. He says he was asymptomatic the entire duration and doesn’t think Covid is serious but did comply with all self isolation instructions from his health department.

This is a good thread. Not for data but possibly to vent. I was very concerned about my dad at first. It’s troubling news when it hits close to home even if you feel the person will make a full recovery.

………….

No, I don’t know him, but Dwayne Johnson’s family got #COVID19. But they all recovered from it and… Dwayne insisted that they’re “even healthier than before.” Which is really a terrible message, because Dwayne is mega-wealthy & probably has the best doctors available, and “kickstarted” a healthier lifestyle regimen afterward. Some idiots will believe that surviving COVID19 “makes you stronger.” :person_facepalming:

Covid started rolling in, what, February? 6 months ago? After all these months, my brother and his wife (both in their late 70s) are the only ones I know personally who’ve gotten Covid. Despite their age, they both recovered. It seems rather amazing that such a virulent and deadly disease  has had so little impact on my family and friends.

As of today, almost 187,000 deaths. MORE than ALL the war deaths since the Korean war. In 6 months. That’s not a big deal?
It is now the 3rd leading cause of death in the US.

How many people do you know personally that have died of heart disease (#1) or cancer (#2) in the last 6 months?
Some people think bodies need to be dropping like flies for this to be a big deal.

What does not get much exposure is the morbidity of the disease. A non-trivial portion of the people that get it have long lasting, and serious problems. This will become yet ANOTHER hit on a medical system that is showing it’s problems.

Sure, not everyone, or even most people die. If a huge percentage of people had really poor outcomes this thread would not even be here. There would be widespread agreement and likely panic.
Due to a fair number of people focused on their own political asses, this has moved from a medical issue to a political one.

FWIW - Got a 40 year old friend that got it. Felt awful for 3 weeks. Been ‘over it’ for ~ 6 weeks when I saw her last week. She still looks poor and doesn’t feel well.

Thinking the anecdotal evidence of your friends & family’s full recovery is indicative of the virus’s danger, is narrow minded in the ultra extreme. Seeing is believing sort of fellow, eh? Well, it’s different for many thousands of other people. The 180,000+ death toll is NOT imaginary. But if you get your news from one far-right leaning outlet, then… no wonder you’re downplaying it.

And that's just in the U.S.

According to this site:

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

the worldwide death toll is 877,231.

...

Plus, many people that get COVID-19 and recover do not recover fully.

They can have serious health problems for the rest of their (most likely) shortened lives.
