Yep….This is the readings off of my 4” T/A maukka calibrated tube… our readings jive… imagine that
I’m interested, but it’d be nice to know what bin the leds are.
I asked for exact product code of “5300-5700K” and what bin 5000K would be, if they can source it. Will keep you updated.
Besided the Infineon FET quoted above, another favorite of mine is the SIRA20DP:

I've been using the SIRA20DP more as of late.
Barry wrote about a Q8 Pro prototype using 3V XHP50.2:
sofirn tried 3*21700 prototype which is too big, much bigger than Q8 But Q8 Pro with 4*XHP50.2(3V), SP36 Pro with 4* SST40 are tested in the lab, both have USBC charging port. I think SP36 Pro will be available soon.
For the first (and probably last) batch of “5050 MCPCBs”: They are maybe reworked from ordinary Q8 MCPCBs, don’t know for sure. What I know is that 6 users having interest is surprisingly few :weary: . I’ll personally try to catch one of the LED4Power boards when the shop reopens next year. Will be a clearance sale, hope we all will get one.
In for one.
thank you
It should be noted that this thread may be not be heard at Sofirn. After some exchanges with Lan, the MCPCB that was made with XHP50.2s would have been modified 3535 footprints. Too time-consuming and effort.
As noted above, Barry mentions of some prototypes of the Q8 and SP36 with higher output LEDs. Best we second the initiative and voice our interest in the “What type of light would you like the next BLF Special Edition to be?” thread. link

Count me in.
1pc Q8 MCPCP with 4 XHP50.2 3V (mounted).
If there are bare Q8 5050 MCPCBs, 2pcs… maybe more.
Put me down for 1 please. 5000K preferred.
Would love the XHP50.2 to be done in warmer tints, but it’s cree…

No better tints for the 3V version AFAIK. And up to now, Sofirn wasn’t even able to source another batch of them:

If Sofirn produces populated boards, we might have to decide for the 5300-5700K version. But then, it’s about power, isn’t it .
I am officially in if the MCPCB is mounted with the four leds.
Will it come with centering rings?
Will it come with centering rings?
Not really an update, but that’s the current state of affairs: Neither me nor (I think, haven’t heard from him since quite some time) Sydney are in contact with Sofirn in this matter. There was a clear ‘no’ to XHP50.2 MCPCBs (former ones were reworked original boards), and so we can only hope for the Q8 Pro project and that the geometry will stay the same. I concur it would make sense to sell gaskets along with the boards. In case the lights are similar enough, I’d even ask Sofirn for complete sets (board, reflektor, gaskets).
I would hope that Sofirn is still in development. From some exchanges, they may offer a complete Q8.
My queries and feedbacks:
As I had ordered the MCPCBs with XHP50.2 (there was a window of opportunity on Sofirn’s WebStore) and later was cancelled. Pressing the matter, from Lan Lee (August 27th):
It is not only because leds are out of stock. It is not easy for Q8 mcpcb suits XHP50.2(3V) 5000K leds. XHP50.2 leds are a bit big for Q8 MCPCB. Workers can’t make it.
However, I took it up with Barry that the Q8 was successfully fitted with the XHP50.2s and there are no known issues with the light. Also, that Sofirn should offer some upgrades on “power lights”, to which he replied (Sept 3rd):
We are going to make a SP31 UV and SP31V2 with LH351D 5000K version. Also, there will be a 10180 mini keychain light coming, Q8 Pro, SP36 Pro etc. Hope they will be available soon.
Lan Lee had previously stated (Aug. 12th):
Thanks for your reminding. I forgot to reserve this thread. But now the number of people is not enough. Factory won’t produce it if market demand is not rich.
As I was re-instating that some 12+ members that are interested in such “[link]”:[old Interest list, do not use] (was: XHP50.2 (3V) boards for Q8 no longer available) - #12 by Sofirn (previous interest list).
I found the response was too presumptuous. So if there is a demand, Sofirn should look into the matter.
Where else can we find the willingness of a manufacturer that states in their signature ‘If you wish to have a light made, please contact us’?
Edit:
Just now sent a PM to Barry about the outsourcing of those 5050 boards. It has been 2 weeks, should be about right.
Interested if it comes with 3V XHP50.2’s installed
Hello,
I’m in. Thanks
I’d buy the MCPCB with or without leds on it. But a host “kit” with the correctly milled reflector, MCPCB w/leds, correct centering rings, and BETTER driver would be worth a lot more to me.
Did I see something called a “Q8 Pro” listed in a comment up there somewhere?
- has a nice ring to it! (kinda like the “SC31 Pro”…)
@ Zappaman:
What would you consider a better driver than the Q8? It has high power capabilities, and Anduril.
And what are you insinuating about correctly milled reflector? And correct centering rings?
I may seem brash, but I’m nevertheless curious.
Better components for better current levels is what I meant. If you read a couple of threads on this topic, several mods have been done to the current driver to get better current output.
These threads also explain how the XHP50.2 is larger in diameter and the reflector has to be reemed wider to allow a fit. The centering rings would be taller to (effectively) meet the now reemed (deeper fit up into the…) reflector (and center around the led of course). This way the light bezel screws down firmly onto the centering rings for a correct fit.
Tom E suggested a more efficient FET (Vishay SIRA20DP) but no one has done any driver mods. The lower profile centering gaskets can be compensated with a thicker bezel “o” ring, Sofirn would probably include the correct centering rings.
Unheard and I are pushing for this Q8 Pro. Not easy to convince someone of different culture and acting as a middleman (Sofirn/Barry), so the numbers have to speak.
There are some that throw in a wrench and then other would-be members are less inclined to participate. As the existing FET can handle the current, maybe limit it somewhat. Hcanning and KawBoy both are getting some 16,800 lumens. I estimate some 48 Amps!
hcanning didn’t mention a problem with the spacers Sofirn provided (in posting #19).
