Couple of questions... Does the Skyray King have built-in low voltage protection, meaning if the cells get below a certain voltage the light flashes or goes to low power? And if it doesn't, would it still be ok to use unprotected Panasonic NCR18650A 3100mAh cells? (I ask because I have some extras.)
Also, these NCR18650A's don't have much of a button on the (+) end. Will they make adequate contact with the Skyray circuit board?
1. The king has standard low voltage protection, that is, until the microcontroller can no longer function (~2.5-2.6V). Then it will turn off and can no longer be turned on.
2. High will stay high until turned off or #1 above.
3. Panasonics NCR18650 has no contact problem. In fact, they fit perfectly, not too tight, and the smooth battery tops don't scratch the PCB.
Since I’m in the US, I got mine at Orbtronic’s ebay store and they arrived w/in a few days (shipped from Florida), but since then they’ve raised the prices $1 each. … Also available at several other ebay sellers and the usual suspects: Intl-outdoor.com, cnqualitygoods.com, hkequipment.net and more I’m sure.
I wouldn't recommend it. The king's design is simple, yet it works flawlessly, because it takes advantage of compatible voltage range between the single Li-ion, MCU, and the XM-L Vf.
As such, I doubt it has buck converter, since it didn't need to. And without buck, your 6V input will probably just fry the MCU (2.7V min - 5V max).
Mine's from lightmalls and it has Skyray King brand on it. $64.80, free registered, Singpost (7 days order to receive for me!).
But of course.. you can never tell, any seller when they're out of stock probably will try source one quickly, so FandyFire? Tangsfire? No guarantee with cheap... err.. budget.. sellers
Seriously though, this is a serious flooder. Get it. I don't think you'll be disappointed, not at this price. I even think it's too much light <10m, all the raw lumens just make things blend together.
hi all, bought my branded sky ray king from taobao about a week ago, so far pretty happy with it. just wondering what others are getting for lux @ 1m, im at about 16500 which i think is low? also seem to be drawing around 3.6a from 4 x ncr18650a's. i get over 14000lux from a single 18650. anyone else with similar results? def not putting out 2k lumen. maybe i just got a sleepy driver?
