Skyray King (3xXML, 4x18650 Fatty)

A new king in black 5 x T6 with lanyard and handle ?

https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/8893

You guys are really making me want one of these. Im saving for a TK41 but do i really need another single xml thrower? Lol.

Wheres the best place to get a branded one?

What to do...what to do.

Has anyone info if the King can handle 8xCR123's ?

I wouldn't recommend it. The king's design is simple, yet it works flawlessly, because it takes advantage of compatible voltage range between the single Li-ion, MCU, and the XM-L Vf.

As such, I doubt it has buck converter, since it didn't need to. And without buck, your 6V input will probably just fry the MCU (2.7V min - 5V max).

Thanks Pulsar ..... I was hoping that It would handle the Voltage because I have tons of those batteries I never use .... I didn't want to fry it ....

Mine's from lightmalls and it has Skyray King brand on it. $64.80, free registered, Singpost (7 days order to receive for me!).

But of course.. you can never tell, any seller when they're out of stock probably will try source one quickly, so FandyFire? Tangsfire? No guarantee with cheap... err.. budget.. sellers

Seriously though, this is a serious flooder. Get it. I don't think you'll be disappointed, not at this price. I even think it's too much light <10m, all the raw lumens just make things blend together.

hi all, bought my branded sky ray king from taobao about a week ago, so far pretty happy with it. just wondering what others are getting for lux @ 1m, im at about 16500 which i think is low? also seem to be drawing around 3.6a from 4 x ncr18650a's. i get over 14000lux from a single 18650. anyone else with similar results? def not putting out 2k lumen. maybe i just got a sleepy driver?

Stop Saying the word Donut... Don't want to attract too many cops to this Thread ....

Welcome to the club, Shaquille, Steve Head, and JA7!

JA7, perhaps yours is a little lazy? I tested my King At 25,100 lux at 1m and I also tested it to put out 2200 lumens with my light box. It's an impressive light for its size. Basicaly it's like a very serious light producing little coke can :)

And I also got my King from Lightmalls. It was a branded light, performs flawlessly, cost about $65, and arrived in about 10 days. Couldn't be more pleased with their service or my light.

I'm using eagletac 2500mah 18650's. Cost about $9ea. Perhaps some of these other batteries are not allowing enough amps out quick enough? I know my eagletacs are getting the job done nicely.

Hmm... I don't think it would be the batteries, king only needs about 1.8A from each, that's easy peasy for any decent Li-ion.

Next thing that popped in my mind would be the contact, but then again, I've ran this using one TF flame and could not tell the difference much, so... that leaves lazy driver?

But I'd definitely try different batteries and check contact problems anyway, just in case.

Here is the results on my testing so the King can be compared to other lights I own.

have tested various 18650's (sanyo 2600mah) in the king without making any gains. the cells really only need to supply less than 2amps each. i will say its pretty difficult to measure the amp draw on this light but after several attempts with two different meters i decided to pop the driver and measure directly from the led @ 1.2 amp.

i looked at the cree website for data on the xm-l t6 and @ 1.2a i should be getting around 450lm x 3 1350lm puts me in the ball park of my lux @ 1m ?

so is there anything i can do to the driver its self to get me closer to 2.5a per xm-l? driver looks pretty complex.

even under driven its a great light, still impressive but would like it to function to its potential.

Yeah, I see you've done all the testings, looks like the driver is shot. Too bad. The MCU seem to work as you're using the light, so probably just one of the current gates.

Can you post a top snapshot of the driver? How did you open it anyway... mine's really a tight fit.

Your light works fine pulsar stop opening /poking /prodding /washing it please !!!

This is my first post here, but I ordered a neutral king from hkequipment, and just received it a couple days ago. And I just recently found out today that It came with the new three mode driver. I held the button while it was on, and it went into strobe mode.

Also, I am currently running it on trustfire flame cells. Anyone want to recommend any better cells that aren't too expensive?

AFAIK they all have 3 modes including the hidden strobe.

A tight fit indeed, i went around the outside of the driver with the pick from my multi-tool like a sharp little screwdriver to remove any obvious glue. there are two flat spots around the outside of the driver board that look like they are there for a pry tool. it depends on your commitment level, at first i was going about it a bit gingerly and was starting to damage the outside surface until i dug the multi-tool as far down as i could and pried it up. lifted quite easily then.

so where would these current gates be?
