P60 drop in issues from Int. Outdoor Store

I just received my second P60 Drop- in from Int Outdoor Store It is a 2.5A 3 mode neutral.

It’s seems that when I tighten down the Aluminum reflector piece on the brass pill housing it becomes a 1 mode.

If I loosen it up a little it becomes a 3 mode .

Any ideas??
Also the beam pattern is ringy unlike my other one with exactly the same set up from the same place.

is there a clear gasket present between the copper led top and aluminium reflector?

No there is not.

Well diagnosed  Of course, there is supposed to be one.

there is your ring problem…you need to contact intl-outdoor…Foy mentioned on his review that without this gasket there is a lot of artefacts and rings…might also be pressing on the copper top too much and shorting something out…it will definitely fix the ringy issue though…

THANK YOU

any time! easy enough fix…

Well done, pounder.

Couple of other things I need to add to the review I've experienced that may be relevant here . . . .

The total length of the brass pill on the IO module is, maybe 2.4mm longer than an XM-L drop-in from Manfont I just measured - probably is longer than most others as well. That, plus the clear donut around the emitter may make length an issue with some hosts. It hasn't really been a problem with any of my lights except I have to get it seated just right, with the spring compressed/turned just the right way.

Length issues can sometimes play havoc with a flashlight as some driver boards can be quite picky about pressure. If pressed against too hard or not hard enough, some drivers will show their displeasure by changing modes randomly, forgetting a mode entirely or not powering on at all.

I'm surprised your module didn't come with the clear donut around the emitter. If I get un-lazy I'll do a white-wall comparison because without that ring, it is unbelievably ringy, to the point of probably being a deal killer. It's that bad. Sounds like it may also be crucial in maintaining proper overall length.

Hope this helps . . . .

Foy

I looked at my other dropin from IO and made a plastic washer similar to it and it did stop the 1-3 mode issue but the rings are still there, I will try it in a different host and see if that is the issue.

Thanks All.

I just received a drop-in from IO with the same ringy beam problem. Also seems to be missing the clear gasket. Waiting to hear back at the moment.

OK, here’s the situation. After I provided Hank with a beam shot, he contacted his factory and determined that the reflectors used in this latest batch of drop-ins are different. Here’s the beam shot:

His suggested solution was to use an OP reflector instead, which he offered to provide me with. I don’t really consider this to be a solution so much as a less than ideal workaround, as I’m not exactly a big fan of OP for my P60s.

I’m not really sure what is different about the new reflector as I don’t have a drop-in from the previous batch to compare it to. Swapping it over to the MF 3-mode drop-in results in the same problem. Adding a spacer doesn’t help either. It makes things worse. If anything, the opposite is needed, but that’s not possible without removing the brass plate.

I have a bunch of empty drop-ins from a couple of different places arriving soon, at which point I might do some reflector mixing and matching to try to improve things. It’s not really a huge issue outdoors, but indoors it sucks.

FYI

Damn! I have one on the way - a neutral to replace a cool white I was sent in error. When I first put it in, it looked horrible - it was obviously not neutral. Hank offered to pay shipping for me to return it, but I thought I’d just keep it and get another. It looked really ringy too indoors, but with a bit of adjustment isn’t _too _bad. I’ll probably put it in a L2M and give it away. Outside it’s OK (apart from the tint).

I’ll be unhappy if the one on its way is crappy too - I want to keep it for my L2P.

Just got another message from Hank stating that he’s getting a new batch of reflectors in that will solve the ring issue. He offered to send me one for free of course, after they’ve arrived. I would imagine that he’d be happy to do the same for you if need be. So all is not lost

Now that’s great customer service!

I found an old OP reflector and that fixed the problem for me.

Just a few days ago I ordered a NW dropin with an OP reflector from Hank. When it arrives I can report what the beam looks like...

Just noticed that these are now marked “Sold Out”.

Yikes!I hope you guys get your reflector issues fixed,Hank is good to deal with and should take care of this.I often reccommend this drop-in because I'm happy with mine,if it's any help I used a thinner isolation disk from another drop in to focus the emitter better and it works.good luck guys.

After communicating with Hank, I feel quite certain that what is actually happening is that he is getting the issue fixed before selling any more.

Yeah, I figured that was what was going on - he doesn’t need the headache of faulty drop-ins.

I had another look at the drop-in I have - it’s missing the bit of plastic. I’ll wait until I get the neutral one before getting back to Hank.
