Is there anyway to "upgrade" this Dewalt flashlight?

I have this Dewalt flashlight. Is there any way to upgrade it to an LED? I tried one of the aftermarket bulbs (terra-lux i think) but it only last a few hours. Are there any that are worth the price?

Afaik there is no led dropin that can handle 18 volts. The reason your terralux drop in died is because the voltage was to high.

I am pretty sure that it was one that was designed for it. It didn’t burn it out, it actually broke in two pieces. I never returned it because I lost the receipt.

I dont know what that light looks like on the inside or how much effort you want to put into modding it, but there are 18V buck drivers to power one LED to build something yourself:

Or one of these (if they fit?):

Tho people around here have mixed feelings about these dropins.

So it wasn’t this?

I have a Ryobi 18V set with an incan light included. I had the same idea a few months back but after taking a good look at the light I realized two simple facts.

1. While 18V with a high capacity Li-Ion battery that will run a circular saw for an hour should be great for a light. The problem is there are no simple drop-in replacement bulbs I could find that will handle 18V. The Terralux TLE-6EX and less powerfull TLE-1F can handle 9V at most, not even close. I’m not sure my Ryobi light would even handle the TLE-6 due to fact 2.

2. I thought maybe I could do something with one of the Solarforce 4-18V, P60 drop-ins but then I hit the wall. The light I have is all composite (plastic), there is no thermal path whatsoever to move heat away from the LED!

Your DeWalt is most likely also composite construction. It’s a great, durable material for the intended use but not what we’re looking for in a hot-rod light. In my search for an LED drop-in for my light I found some old links to a simple, 18V LED drop-in, maybe by Terralux but I couldn’t find anyone that had it available.
In the end I simply sprayed the (plastic) reflector with clear Krylon to even out the beam and saved myself a ton of work on a light that I don’t use all that often.

No, that wasn’t it. It looked more like a showerhead with many leds. Maybe it was pulled from the market cuz I can’t find a picture of it online.

Oh it was one of those. I'm not sure what the max voltage on those is. If I can find it I'll tell you.

This?

Check this one out. It will fit your DW919…

1,000 lms LED POWER MODULE FOR New Version DeWALT 6V~18V

The fusion48 on eBay, as the links above point out. I have the old one that’s 600-800 lumens. The newer 1000 lumen version has its own heat sync built in, and has great runtime
I’d bought a second one for my mechanic friend and he uses it in the snake light like the one you posted, I have the handle light which it also fits in

I really like it. really bright. I used it regularly so far and my battery hasnt died out yet. Im liking it even more. Im

starting to think that the lxlm03 ($60) model i bought recently was for nothing.

1 watter, not as bright…but drops right in…make sure you select the right voltage

Here is what I did with my Ryobis
A really, really easy 10 minute 18V power tool flashlight mod

Hello,

I'm new to this site. I know this is an old thread,, but it came up when searching for the best LED for an 18V DeWalt DW919.

After quiet a bit of searching I found this site THEFUSIONLITE.COM over in Hong Kong that has a direct drop in for my DeWalt DW919 work light that is extremely Bright. They have a 1300, 1600, & 2000 Lumen direct drop in for my DeWalt and also for several other brand's as well.

I got the fusion48 1300 Lumen; It was a direct drop in,, and bring's this worklight that come's with a 325 Lumen Xenon Bulb into the 21st Century. I got the 1300 Lumen for 31 $'s including shipping and now my 18V DeWalt 919 worklight is bright enough to help me when I need a cordless worklight.

Hope this help's other's that are needing a good Bright LED for their Worklight.
