Review: Sunwayman T60CS (3 x XM-L U2 | 3 x 18650 / 6 x 16340)

Thx guys! Bulk of review now up.

@Harry - I'll have shots in the G-Shock thread soon. =)

Very nice review. I remember your SF graph

Thanks for another great review! Since the positive pole is recessed do you think it would be possible to make a piece of rubber to place in there and prevent shorts?

Thx Scaru! Yes definitely possible, as a matter of fact I think I might have something lying around that I can try. I'll post back when I find something suitable.

this light is now at hke with a 20$ discount for forum members…185$ is a great deal on this light…now I don’t know between this and the tn30…

The TN30 is brighter, larger, and has a variable control ring. I got one for $200.00 off ebay from “doingoutdoor.” Great lite.

oh nice price! yeah it has been on my radar for a long time…i’m going to do the neutral one off hke I think…I need a nice long running and bright neutral…

Tim,

Your review is getting better & better!

What would happen if it tail stands & bottom got wet? Is there a short protection?

turboBB:

Once again, I’ve pre-ordered the light based upon your review, but have one question.

You mention you’re “cautious” about the carrier being replaced if the fuse is blown, but you don’t address that issue at all in your review.

I don’t quite understand what you mean. Could you please elaborate?

Thanks!

Right now a real deal on this light is to be had at LJ if you use their 4th of July promo code…

Thx guys!

@ma_sha1 / indy - like the V60C, the battery carrier has a built-in "fuse" that once blown, the entire carrier will need to be replaced. There are no user serviceable parts in that carrier. I don't know what the "fuse" looks like so can't point it out but do know for a fact that it does work since I have blown one out while testing the V60C.

The only recourse once this happens is to contact Sunwayman for a new battery carrrier.

There is an ongoing thread re: water immersion here. Unfortunately, it remains unresolved/undetermined. I've suggested to SWM after the V60C review that it would've been great had there been electronic PCB protection that can be reset instead.

Hope that helps,
Tim

I don’t know how much of a concern this “short issue” is. One poster said he submerged the (V60C) light for two hours and only saw some corrosion, but no short was mentioned. And I can’t find any complaints from owners about any other issues. (Personally, I have no intention of placing my lite under water if I can help it!)

Tim, how did you blow the fuse?

I cut a plastic disk for my v60c and put it in the tube…so there is no current going to the charging thing…you could also tape the battery carrier on the side touching the contacts…

I can't recall specifically but it was while I was testing the current. I removed the tube and only had the battery carrier pressed up against the base of the head. I did see some small sparks but nothing unusual, however, after a few times of this it didn't register any reading on my DMM so that's when I found out the carrier had protection built-in.

This was right after I received the V60C and since I needed to get the review completed at the time, I created a "bridge" with a paper clip to connect the positive tip from the first battery (in series) with the central "leg" of the carrier that routes the positive path.

There are additional details I need to add to this review which will include the battery carrier. Should have that up later tonight.

Cheers,
Tim

Any problems at all with the light, pounder?

Okay. It looks like, then, that with normal use there shouldn’t be a problem. Thanks!

nope…it’s been rock solid since I got it…

I've added full details for the battery carrier as well as completely fleshed out the review.

I purchased some off white plastic hole plugs off Ebay that fit perfectly - except for the prongs that were a bit too deep/long. I have a dremel tool and it took just a few minutes to grind them down for about an eighth of an inch.
