980l turned itself on in holster..

don’t know how but I must have bumped it…don’t know how long it had been on but I couldn’t touch any part of it…kind of scary that it gets that hot…now I know what Foy said when he said it got hot…doesn’t seem to be any damage to anything but the tailcap was squeaky when it was hot…anyway this was my first too hot to touch XML run and it was a surprise…

Did it burn the holster at all? My DRY reshaped the holster and shrunk it from the heat.

doesn’t appear to have done anything to the holster…the holster was very awrm though…it was in this one…

YEP…. LOTC is a MUST HAVE feature for any light I stow in a pack or EDC pocket carry. At the very least, lights like my HD2010 and TR-J12 I will lock down the low mode into memory so at least if they do turn on nothing will burn up.

Been there, done that, NOT FUN! VERY, VERY Not FUN.

ON a side note, its amazing how durable some of these cheap lights really are. Thank goodness you and your light are OK.
Further side note (as I have seldom seen it mentioned), Thumbs up to lights like the SR King and Apex 5T6… With their tight gasket O-ring seal, you can unscrew the battery tube and effectively lock out power.

yeah this one does not lock out, but it sits so far in with the stainless tail bezel that it’s never been a problem…my sun t20cs I lock out all the time because it turns on constantly…i’m going to have have to find a cup that I can set in the holster so the 980l tailcap will be protected…

and I agree with you…i’m surprised the led didn’t desolder itself…

The LED is pushed down by the reflector. Solder may have molten but there was no way to move.

You could mod the tailcap to make the UF980 tailstandable + holsterproof.

No worries, it can take it.
I’ve run it down statically with 3-4 18650 - in a row!

Tailcap gets softer from heat, there will also be a bit more pressure in flashlight when it heats. Tailcap rubber may protrude more.

warning

When hot, DO NOT SUBMERGE!
Increased pressure will decrease inside body and it will suck itself full of water, all the way up to driver.

…on the other hand, it did not mind about this either…
