TrustFire TR-1200 or FandyFire STL V6 for throw?

Hi guys, so I already have a TF TR-1200 which has a decent beam profile and has decent throw, but the Q5 emitters in comparison to my SK king absolutely suck, and it only barely throws better than my king, which is not even meant for throwing but does because of sheer brightness.

So I was wondering if I should get a STL V6/V2 to out throw my TR-1200 and most definitely my king?

What are your opinions on the matter? I already have an eBay (technically aliexpress) 85W HID coming in, so I might not even get the STL V6/V2 depending on how much my HID destroys my other lights.

The HID will definitely out throw both of those lights. If you want tonight I will do beamshots comparing the stl-v6 to a DRY which is similar to the King.

Yes please scaru, if you have the time to. Thanks.
I pretty much only bought the HID as a thing to satisfy my curiosity, since they’re not that common among BLFers.

STL will outhrow both lights you mentioned

Well I don’t have the SkyRay King to compare my TR-1200 against, but I would bet if I did it would be safe to say that the TR-1200 would easily come out on top in throw to the floodier SkyRay King. My TR-1200 even though not in the same class as my better XM-L throwers is still one heck of a good thrower.

The FandyFire STL-V6 is the way to go if you want the best bang for your buck XM-L thrower that I know of.

But this one here has my interest even though I don’t know how well it is driven. But it looks like a T40CS copy which I do have. And I can tell you the SunwaymanT40CS is one bad thrower.

As always I do not have a camera with a real manual mode so I just take 10-15 pictures and pick out the ones that accurately represent what I see. If you are a setting snob look away now. :P

STL-V2 with fully charged batteries in 2 cell mode. Sorry for the slightly shaky camera, I used my tripod to hold my flashlight which left my camera hel by hand.

DRY on Turbo the cells were also fully charged to 4.2 volts.

I hope this helps, but chances are it didn't so here the lux figures are. 4

STL=46K Lux (My measurement)

King NW=22.7k Lux (_the_'s measurement)

Thanks scaru for your time, but could you also include shots of them side by side shining against a wall? So the brightness and hotspot can be compared, thanks.
I understand if you can’t get long range beamshots (I am in a similar situation, live in the suburbs and don’t want to shine in people’s houses), but if you ever can please post some beamshot comparisons!

Thanks!

Ok, here a picture is. I dialed the exposure way down to make it more obvious.

Wow thanks, so the STL V6/V2 really is a hardcore thrower! I suppose I’ll take the plunge so I can have at least one dedicated thrower.

Yeah, I love mine. A marsfire version is on sale for 23.99 here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/290686650930 But the problem is the driver seems to be a bit of a lottery. I measure 1.3ish amps in 2 cell mode while someone else measured .7 amps. So it may be smart to go for a different one that you know will be well driven.

UPDATE: I went down to the park tonight, and it was pretty much pitch black (and I just played the slenderman game) so I wasn’t too fond of the darkness.
I took down with me my TR-1200 and my king, and the king pretty much beats it in every way, flood, throw, insane brightness.
Now I’m just waiting on the STL V2 so I can properly see the treeline at the edge of the park!

Which one did you order?

I ordered an FandyFire STL V6 off DX: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/fandyfire-stl-v6-cree-xm-lt6-2-mode-1000-lumen-white-led-flashlight-2x18650-3x16340-3x123a-91137?item=2

I currently don’t own a soldering iron and don’t have access to one so I didn’t want to gamble with the marsfire version.

Makes sense. I'm sure you'll love it, they're really great throwers. :)

hey slewflash, when your v6 comes in , report back on here to compare with the skyray king will ya please

oh, and let me know how that hid turns out. i too am very curious.

The TR-1200 5X Q5 will fool a lot of people on how it throws. From my findings, it throws about as tight a beam as other single XM-L throwers, but it just won’t out do the better XM-L throwers like the M3X, T40CS, or STL-V6. But here’s an example of the TR-1200 at 60yds.

And here’s the Keygos KE-7 6X Q5 at same distance.

Now look at the beam difference between those above and the Fenix TK35 at the same distance.

And here’s the FandyFire STL-V6 since your getting that.

Will do! But first I have to learn how to post pictures…
