What software do you use to draw?

I see pictures in many threads that have added lines drawn in for various purposes (jumpers, etc.), and others where people have created drawings from scratch. What software do you prefer for this and what OS do you run it on? I am currently stone age. I have to draw on paper or print a photo and draw on that, and then scan that back into my Ms Vista pc and would like to update to more user friendly method. Please help me change my word heavy posts to pic/paint heavy posts, thank you. :~

I use Paint.Net

It’s free and has tons of plugins available from the developer community. Great stuff!!

+1

Or GIMP, more powerful but way more complex. Paint.Net is enough for like 99% of what normal users do.

Ill check it out tonight.

Gimp is a very good suite, and the newer version loads much more quickly.

Gimp is great for drawing around in photos, in fact I think of Gimp as the poor man's photoshop.

For more technical drawing (imagine things like lines, circles, boxes, arrows etc) I use the draw software from the libreoffice package.

etchasketch 1.0

Is that USB or FireWire?

MS Paint.

Paint Shop Pro 8, yes it’s old, but it works & it was free. I use it to doctor up photos, or to make very simple drawings. Win XP.

When draw someting, it has mostly to do with a project for machine parts or so. That’s why I use Google Sketchup. I like it, because it’s fast, 3D and I can include the dimensions.

I work on a Vista machine and use Photoshop, though that’s a bit outside the price range for most people. I have used some of the free software mentioned previously and highly recommend GIMP as long as you’re not afraid to take the time to learn it.

Another nice free utility if you want to start adding more images to your posts is Yahoo’s Smush.it . You have to be a bit patient with it, but it allows you to shrink the file size of images without losing quality. If you find your images take a long time to upload to the forum, or get rejected because they’re too big, try Smush.it.
