A light love story, TR-J12 style

Well, I have had my TR-J12 for over a week now and I am still in love with the thing. I have noticed that in the past I will get a new light and use it for awhile then fall back to an old favorite. Not this time, this thing is built like a tank, feels great in the hand and is just loads of fun to mess with. I use it as a dog walking light, it’s massive overkill for this, especially with how many streetlights there are by me, but I still enjoy every second of messing with it. It is fun to point it at a far away tree and just see the whole thing light up. Even on low this light is fairly beastly and works great, but on high it is the most impressive light I have, by far. I may have to pick up the x100 but I would be worried that the J12 would lose it’s luster or the x100 wouldn’t be able to live up to the bar the J12 set. Either way, I LOVE THIS LIGHT!!!

I like mine too!

x2… its total overkill for me, but who cares really… At $55 shipped I can quite easily afford to indulge myself.

On a recent CPF/BLF night hike it was my most impressive light as well. Blasting out a HUGE wall of light for a good 45-60 minutes in 2 cell mode (more than that if I add up the minutes in LO-MED). It was definitely very warm, but not scalding or alarmingly so. Its wall of fat flood served as an excellent general purpose trail light, reaching out a good ~40x100 square yards. Just a big area flooder.

This was the first time I have EVER holster carried a light. I had too actually because it was too big for my camelbak. It is big and heavy, but not obtrusively so. I had it stowed over my left-rear hip and I hardly noticed it was there.

I had no problems with the annealed springs. The copper braid, zero resistance mod worked fine to deliver its ~30 Watts to the DC-DC board.

Any tips for increasing the OTF output for the easy diy’er? Mine’s bone stock, running on Trustfire flames. Such as what was the tailspring mod you referred to? Also, I read about replacing drivers but haven’t done that. Is it an easy job? What’s needed?
I appreciate any tips.

Incidentally, I first saw the J12 at a CPF meetup here in Oz. Immediately went and bought one. For the money I can’t think of a brighter light!

picked mine up for 45 $ !!! kekekeke… still waiting for my stupid dinodirect order for the skyray king to compare it against.

in the mean time picked up a 4D maglite with 4 nihm cells and charger for 20$!! woohoo

Where on earth did you find THAT deal mate? I would buy one at that price too!

Hi, may i know where did you get that at 45 bucks?

Is the version on DX OK? http://www.dealextreme.com/p/tr-j12-cree-xm-l-t6-5-led-4500lm-5-mode-memory-white-light-flashlight-2-x-26650-3-x-18650-112817

Yeah, that’s been my experience lots of times. I always tend to go back to the old familiar. Seems like the J12 is really special. Darn it, now you’ve got me interested too J)

I have got this one. It’s ok, works perfectly well.

Mine seems to be  The Trustfire A8 ……

If you love the J12, wait till you meet her big sister, J18. More up top if you know what i mean…… To me going out for the X100 would be like going out for a trick. Be faithful. Or at least if you get the X100, don’t use it in front of the J12!!! J)

I see, i ordered from them as well, for my X100.

I modded this light for less than $20 and now it outputs 4000 lumens OTF! Check out my thread for beamshots/advice:

I hope this helps!
