Which 14500?

Hey,

I'm thinking of giving my Thrunite Ti to my mum as EDC (she really likes it :D) and get me something in the AA format. Now, looking at the upcoming group buy from Erik I thought about 14500s.

Now, as this light will be near some very important parts of my body all the time, I really want safe cells.

Are IMR cells really safer than others? If so, is there an alternative to the popular AW IMR?

Hope you guys can help :)

Erik's upcoming gb, which light?

Please dont overestimate the importance of that body part. It's a joystick but not a vital organ.

Not very many or very many popular 14500's exist on the market. Take as reference the selection of HKE; HKE is the "largest" flashlight specialist in the East and never sells fakes. I dont know AW IMR. MixoMaxo left some funny comments in the 14500 TF judgement call thread. I will assume that the TF 14500 flames are the most often sold 14500's on the market; fakes exist so beware.

You dont own any 14500 yet?

He mentioned it in the other thread, I think its this: http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1503 with Nichia and custom logo.

HKE sells Ultrafire, Trustfire and Nitecore.

I only own 18650, AA and AAA so far. ;)

I use Trustfire flame 14500s from Manafont in my Balder SE-1 and Bestinone IMR 14500s in my E1320 kit light .

You will NEED IMRs for best results in a high amp light .

I have a couple pair of these and they work very well.

bestvaping.net sell the popular and well regarded ‘bestinone’ IMR 14500s for $3.50 a pair plus shipping. Though at $7 a pair from bestinone that may be a better deal for just 2.

I just picked up 4x Ultrafire 14500s from an ebay seller for $6 but they could be rubbish, just seemed a good deal.

I think the best out there right now are the intl-outdoor 840mah protected ones which are based on the Sanyo cell and I believe have a high quality SEIKO PCM added by keeppower. They will set you back $16 a pair though.

I have both the AW and the bestinone IMRs The bestinones are superior to the AWs in every aspect from performance to cost.

If I can get a decent quantity discount I might order a bunch to include with the lights.

I'm still struggling because most 14500 lights arent really much smaller than 18650 lights.. :D

They should be much cheaper in larger quantities if you buy via the above link.

true.

Buy 18650 lights are heavier.

Too heavy for your purse, kreisgirl? :>

I think the main reason is that there arent many useful 15mm drivers..

i am going to receive a 14500-to-18650 adapter in Nylon (on order and incoming). weighs 8g only. perfect for purse use.

:>

Why not just use Ultrafire 3000mAh cells? Those are usually not more than adapters.. :D

That is probably one of the dumbest products ever...

kreisler or the adapter? :innocent:

Both. :P

Thanks for your support!!

;)

The adapter serves only one limited use. kreisler posts can be used over and over as sleep aids.

why do i have the feeling that BFL community members are messing with me? :D
