Ray-O-Vac Industrial Grade flashlight mini review and easy mod.

Budget lights: RAY-O-VAC Industrial Grade LED Flashlights. Aluminum titanium bodies, heavy shock absorbing rubber shrouds on the head and tail. The larger, 3C battery 140 lumen, 2 mode version was purchased at Home Depot. The light is OK, (for a budget light) stock, quite a tight thrower, but not up to flashaholic lumen standards. Immediately after purchase a quick disassembly was in order. Head, emitter and reflector were all glued, but with a flexible rubber cement type glue that was possible to break. The the emitter, heat sink, and reflectors were pulled first. Next a standard (P-60 sized) SST-50 drop was wrapped in with several turns of copper foil and pressed (threaded) it into the head. Reassembed, and Voila! A multi purpose, heavy duty, budget flashlight with a mega-bright high and a useful low. Mod took 15 minutes. There are plans to replace the stock emitter with an SST-90 and re-install with the original aluminum heat sink. Easy, fun mod, these bodies come in 2 x AA and 3 x C battery configurations, and they are built like tanks. Specs from the package: 9 meter /30 foot drop test, 140 lumens,38 hours runtime (on high!) with 138m ~(a football field and a half) throw. On low these tanks put out 45 lumens for a whopping 85 hours at 85 meters of throw. They come with three "C" Ray-O-Vac batteries, which were immediately replaced. The light has a "Lifetime Warrantee" and Home Depot is good about returns. $24 for the 2 x C, $15 for the 2 x AA.

Hmm . . . do you have any photos to share? I was just eyeing these up at my local HD the other day.

No photos were taken of the disassembly / mod. However, it was very easy. And for $25 for a tank like Titanium / aluminum flashlight, a fun, worthwhile mod.

Well how about at least posting a link to the specific light you are talking about?

I believe this is the light, right?

-Garry

i will get one too. but i dont see any need to mod it. i dont have 15mins.

if i want my 250lm P2A light to be as unbreakable, i could cut my own rubber boots (with holes ;) ) and put it over the head and the tail. will increase the drop impact resistance by 300%.

Garrybunk, yes, that is the light.

kreisler, LOL!

I wonder if the 3xAAA version would take a 22650 cell? Might make an interesting mod if it takes a P60 module like the 3C version.

Nice info and mod think you for the information in the origional post!

Something has to be done about this! This is BS and not needed here this is the second thread where kreisler has posted something that is not appropriate or relevant to the thread. I hate reading this kind of stuff! THIS IS SPAM!!!

Sorry to the origional poster for my comments!

take it easy bro life is beautiful. my rights to delete my posts or to erase the contents of my posts have been revoked, ask Sb about it.

Hey BRO you take it easy on the meaningless posts and I wont make a comment on them! Thanks BRO!!

so what did you mod on it? Pics or it didn’t happen?

will try to be more considerate

So what kind of numbers did you get with the SST-50 drop-in? And where did you get the drop-in?

Why would you want to delete or erase the content of your posts?

cause he's Kreisler...

I was hoping for more then that

It something about him not wanting to go off topic and him being OCD. :P That good enough for ya? :D
