I’m still on the hunt for a decent flood-to-throw that tickles my fancy in just the right way. Does anyone have one of these? Specifically I would be interested in some beam shots (and most grateful).
Looks a lot like This One from cnqualitygoods.com. I was just checking out their OEM lights last night. The page has some good shots of the dismantled light.
The listing at IO didn’t provide any hint that there would be a logo on this light. I would have preferred for there not to be, but it’s a not huge deal.
The magnetic tail cap is strong enough to hold on to a metal surface at a right angle, so it serves it’s purpose well enough.
The zooming mechanism is very smooth. You can operate with one hand, no trouble. I like it.
As you can see here, there is a very shallow reflector covering the star. This is obviously designed to direct as much light out the front as possible. Nice.
Look how small it is! Not much bigger than an SC600, and decidedly smaller than a standard sized Solarforce host. This is a plus if you ask me.
The small ring you see here is obviously a reflector artifact. I can live with it.
You can’t tell from the photo, but the pill appears to be solid copper. I might get around to disassembling it at some point, but for now I can tell you that it transfers heat to the host exceptionally well. It gets warm very quickly, and that’s a good thing.
Tail cap readings (8*7135 version):
High - 2.8 amps
Medium - 0.87 amps
Low - 0.13 amps
I really wish you hadn’t ask me that, because tint was NOT an option when I checked out. Alas, I therefore have a T6 1A, which wouldn’t have been my preference otherwise.
However I have a bunch of 16mm NW stars lying around these days, so a mod is certainly not out of the question. I had been toying with that idea the whole time.

cainn: the pill would be brass not copper.[/QUOTE]
I understand that pills are most often made of brass, but not in this case it seems:
It dims noticeably when doing a ceiling bounce, but not nearly as significantly as a Trustfire Z6 (which is the only other decent XM-L flood-to-throw that I have to compare against).
Here are some beam comparison shots with the TrustFire Z6 when zoomed out. Z6 on the left, LXP on the right:
As you can see the LXP paints a comparatively large print of the LED. This is mostly because there is much less travel in the zooming mechanism, and probably also because the lens is significantly smaller. To be perfectly honest this host is clearly designed for a smaller die LED.
Next are some shots zoomed in all the way. Z6 is the first one. What the shallow reflector on the LXP does is create an almost imperceptible but
definitely present hot spot, which basically results in more light in the center of the beam:
I really like this little light, but it has it’s pros and cons.
There tend to be a few minor differences however. Perhaps someone is branding ready-to-go versions of these host kits, or perhaps both the host kits and the complete lights come from the same place, or perhaps it’s just another example of manufactures copying each other. Who knows?
What I can say is that the LXP branded lights from IO seem to be good quality for the price. I received a PM from another member not so long ago who was very impressed with this one also.
