All fakes are completely fake. A clone can be well made and does not try to fake the Name. Counterfeit knives are Bull Plop as far as actual usage. Fakes are all show and no go.
Queen Cutlery, USA, makes very nice knives of real D2 for about $50.
D2 is actually an old metal….been around since before WWII, used in tools.
Actually I have one of those folders with the “strider” text on the blade. The scale is made of real G10. It’s very good quality and comes with a cool bee wax style texture.
LOL, yes I heard about the flaky black paint on the SRMs. 939 was an impulse buy since they are discontinued, and it looked tacticool
Heard the blade profile is great for food prep, but I don’t want the added texture of paint chips in my food; ever since I saw a de-anodized 763 I’ve been kinda wanting to try reverting something to pure aluminum
And yep, you’re not the only one surprised about Enlan’s recent cloning, I wasn’t sure what to make of it when I saw an Enlan branded 710 with musical symbols on the handle. It would be pretty hilarious if they cloned the sebenza clone to ride on SRM’s success, but I suspect that Enlan/SRM aren’t really independent companies as they both tend to make disproportionately quality stuff.
All with brand-name equivalents are fakes. It’s just for collection/display and opening cardboard packages.
We have “fakes” in the flashlight arena as well, just not as common. The flashlight aluminium body for the cheaper lights might not even be 6061. Some are ok with fakes, some take issue even with a $32 fake TK35. Of course you do not pay a lot for a fake, but some are very good for the price.
I can’t seem to find that fake sebenza torture test vid again (that video shot by a chinese in China, not that Polish one), they were spine whacking it and doing crazy stuff and it was actually very good. If the demand drops, i am sure aliexpress sellers would drop the price, it dropped to 29.50 before.
Not an expert here, but if you are looking at good knife then i’d not be choosing a $26 Enlan EL08 9Cr13Mov, but say a Buck Vantage Pro with S30V and good lock, it’s 60 bucks on Ebay and in the US i guess you could get from some online stores at 50 bucks. Or a Kershaw Leek with D2 cutting edge at 70 bucks on ebay. At least on bladeforums, it seems that the heat treat on the Buck S30V is even better than Spyderco’s S30V when measured and tested in cutting tests.
An Extrema Ratio Nemesis with 6mm thick blade is only 19 bucks cheapest, and the version with 4mm blade i got it only for 13 bucks. Why not? I’d never be able to afford the 400-500 bucks for one witha N690 blade since i don’t even have semi-professional use for one.
Hardly the same class ... 28 mm and 71 g difference... that's 2 size classes apart in my books. Sorry to sound like a broken record, choose your class first and then look for alternatives.
Bro, don’t worry too much about it, it’s just an example……you could just move it up. You can have a big/heavy knife and still be let down in the field if you are pushing it (not me of course, but since folks here mentioned hunting so i guess they could be cutting through bones etc…heck just go for a fixed blade? ).
Get the Kershaw Junkyard Dog 2.2 then (220mm and 160 grams) since what i mentioned the Kershaw Leek is small. Ok so it’s more expensive at 80 bucks. Of coz there are further considerations like field use for D2 or S30V (which is stainless)…etc etc.
I think the EL08 has slid in price, at least it can be gotten for 25 bucks or so now.
No worries here, just wanted to point out how different these knives are and that they probably serve different roles.
Anyone feeling the urge to buy a Cold Steel Hold Out 1? A 13 inch folder ... aka the folding sword... I know it's totally silly, but I kind of like it somehow... now to look for a civilian purpose to justify it. ;-)
I know what you mean, about silly and about liking it.
It’s far too large to be of much practical use, yet I find myself reaching for my credit card. Only time will tell if I can resist. If I do get it it will be very easy to keep sharp - it will never cut much of anything except the odd apple and lots of air as I wave it around showing it off
Hey i found it, it’s actually a strider……what’s that brown wooden handle knife at the end of the vid?
Hold Out is nice, i mean it’s a nice design. Rajah/Voyager/Spartan seems like butcher knifes that you’d use to take out pig’s internals…… no thanks to the handle material (of coz it’s just me/us). Crazy powerful though. 600lbs on the Espada’s locking mechanism?! The CEO is a slick salesman!
