Black Color Sky Ray King 3x XML U2 1B Custom-made batch

Why are there two different websites to buy the light?

CNQG is Ric's original website, FancyFlashlights is his new retail / "free shipping" site.

yeah the driver is what keeps me from buying…my dry’s 4 modes are hard to beat…only thing with the dry is th elow is still very bright…my tn30 goe from 1 lumen all the way to 2780 lumens and it is amazing to have that versatility…the king would sell tons with a better driver…

Very tempting, but I am holding off for the new TM-20 Tiny Monster SBT-90 light, which will have a lot more throw,
it’s taking forever to come out thou.

one link in 69 the other 59, what is the difference?

At CNQG you’ll have to pay close to $10 for regular shipping, so the price ends up being about the same on both sites.

I gave in it’s just to damn sexy to resist.

Am I the first one to have received theirs? Anyway, got it today. Did not come in a box which I guess is not a big deal, but I am disappointed that it did not even come with the lanyard. Would have been nice but I guess the color of the regular lanyard wouldn’t have matched anyway. Unfortunately, I can’t actually say how it works yet because I don’t have enough 18650’s, and the ones I ordered should be here in the next couple of days. I guess the question I have right now is- does the head on the regular King rattle? I’m not talking about a little switch rattle which I’ve heard about- this is a very substantial mass within the flashlight head that moves around when I shake it. It’s not the front glass and its not at the contacts on the bottom as those aren’t moving at all.

Not knowing whether it works or not since I don’t have any batteries, I’m starting to regret the possibility that this light may turn out to be a dud. There is a very unhappy posting from a member on CPF who is in the process of returning his black Kings, and I’m hoping this thread doesn’t turn into a picthfork-fest against ‘Ric’ :frowning:

Do you have a link to that thread?

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?343068-Black-Skyray-Kings-now-available-with-U2-1B-LEDs-T6-NW-are-still-optional

That thread reads like something of a conspiracy theory. I don’t doubt that the OP had problems with his Kings, but a bit of attentiveness would have resolved the other concerns that he had.

First of all, the price for the black King is pretty much the same on both sites. At CNQG the price is $59.00 + $9.53 for registered air mail, for a total of $68.53. At fancyflashlights the price is $69.00, which includes the cost of registered air mail. So there’s a whopping $0.47 difference.

Second, there is no connection between either of these sites and BLF other than the fact that Ric has a presence on the forums here.

This ‘oztorchfreak’ seems to have a grudge on BLF ever since the incident… For anyone who doesn’t know this is BJflasher and sparkymarky.
He makes it sound as if BLF has some kind of secret connection to fancyflashlights and cnqg, and that perhaps we sent him a bad one on purpose (the last part is just my spin on it, but ever since he went crazy i can’t help but wonder if that’s what he’s hinting at).

God the way he speaks is annoying, always insulting everyone and now he’s trashing cnqg - ‘Maybe most of those people that bought these lights may have little or no problems at all, but they are still not a good build and maybe a RUSH JOB for the BLF to meet the promised deadline for delivery on 15/8/2012 or just to cut costs by sourcing them from a cut rate sub standard manufacturer.’

I wont say his response wasn’t a bit overboard, but the fact remained that if the lights were flickering, it could be a concern. You shouldn’t just gloss over potentially legitimate concerns because of an allegiance to some forum or the idea that you are being slighted etc.

Right now there are people waiting anxiously for their lights and they are hoping for the best, but I hope there weren’t somehow widespread quality issues with this batch. The fact that I dont have batteries kind of sucks BC I want to test this thing. I hope i get them by tomorrow bc of the long weekend.

But back to my original question- if you take the head of your Skyray and shake it, does it rattle?

No, it doesn’t. Not even the slightest bit. The only rattle is in the switch, which is minor and doesn’t concern me in the least.

By the way, I run my King on only 2 18650s most of the time. You don’t need 4. How close your output will come to maximum on only 2 cells depends on the cells you are using.

What I was getting at is that his words have a way of offending people, while he stays safe at the back saying ‘no offense’.

Even with his faulty flashlights, he shouldn’t have worded his post in such a way. I do hope the problem isn’t present in the whole batch though.

Dammit. Now I’m really worried. I’m not trying to inflame people or offend Ric or whatever, but I have the very real concern that this batch may in fact be junk. Orignally when I got the light I hit the switch and nothing really happened. It wouldnt move. I pressed really hard but it didnt actually move in. I wasnt sure if it was because it was electronic and didnt actually give any positive feedback that it had moved. Now after shaking it a couple times to confirm the unwelcome rattle, the switch worked fine and was depressing in, and giving a reassuring click. But then I shook it again and it is stuck again, unable to be depressed. I know I’m going to have to send this light back and I haven’t even turned it on yet. :frowning:

I took a chance, figured they had this whole SkyRay King thing figured out and all they would have to do would be to change the anodize color at the end of machining, throw in the higher bin LEDs and everything would be fine. Apparently several of the lights in this batch were not made to same level of quality as the standard king, and I basically lost that bet. I guess that’s what happens to early adopters… You can think me and the guy of CPF have some sort of agenda or we’re making this up to somehow badmouth the seller or the forum, but as people’s orders trickle in and they get theirs, we’ll see how this shakes out.

I have two 18650’s somewhere. I’ll see If i can drag them up and test it out.

No, there’s a very big difference in the way you worded yours and the way he worded his. Instead of just listing the problem he went on to explain this theory why it was broken (which to me sounded quite offensive).

Hi SparkyMarky.

Again?

Check out what I said in post #69 again:

I mean c’mon, he was carrying on about Ric running some kind of scam that involved gouging an extra $10 out of buyers if they happened to purchase from the fancyflashlights site. This is entirely false. Further, he was clearly implying that there was some sort of collusion between CNQG/fancyflashlights and BLF, which there isn’t.

I don’t deny that there are problems with his Kings. Nor do I deny that there is a problem with yours. I was simply responding to the ignorant conspiratorial ramblings that made up a significant portion of his post. In other words, there are two aspects to this: 1) a faulty product and 2) faulty reasoning. I’m sure Ric will do his best to resolve the former, but it was important for someone to address the latter as well.

Don’t worry too much rwmj5. I know it’s a drag getting a faulty light, and knowing that it will probably take some time to get the situation rectified (been there myself). But Ric takes customer service seriously. I’m sure he will look after you.
