New XM-L flashlight with dual 18650 (it seems to be in parallel)

see post 3

That's a good looking light. I definitely prefer the T08 parallel cell design over the T16 series. Would like to see beam shots of the T08 in real world testing.

SmallSun seems to have really kicked up their quality judging from these pics and by the T13 I just received the other day. A simply outstanding lit for the money. The best light you can buy for $24!!

Now that i revisit the pictures I see it IS a parallel design.

JohnnyMac: Do you have a luxmeter to measure throw for that T13 ??

I do indeed. Lux meter and IS. Not sure I can do it real soon but I will try to get something. I have a long overdue review to get together then I think I will do a full review on the T13.

Sweet :-)

Looking forward to seeing that. I always enjoy your reviews although I may not totally agrees with all aspects of them. Guess it is a taste thing.

Here's the UltraFire version . . .

The input voltage specification is for 2 cells in series.

Any info on the reflector size?

Haha I wonder if Ultrafire gets mad when their lights are cloned

I agree. It’s on my to do list.

This light just needs a 75mm reflector and a 82mm head diameter.

I’m tempted… 2*18650 in parallel, big reflector, I’d probably try to get a NANJG105C in with 3.5A and a copper core XM-L T6 3C. I hope the thermal path is good and the driver can be changed easily. There should be enough space behind the battery contact plate. Still hesitating though.

The thermal pathways/heat management of this light look to be outstanding. The aluminum is thick around the pill, in addition to five deep fins directly around that.

If it's like the UltraFire, it could handle some serious current, no problem.

I’m looking forward to your review of the Ultrafire uf-t60. I’d like to see how well the Small Sun ZY-T08 compares to the Ultrafire.

If it’s anything like the other new smallsun “big” lights, it should be pretty decent in quality. Functional machining with fairly straightforward electronics (pwm, etc). It’s just a tradeoff of how much you’d like to spend. Personally, it’s probably worth getting the real deal if it’s a daily user light, but the clone is just a fun to play with.

I'd be curious to see the difference. Not enough to buy another, however. It's going to have to be pretty good; quality on this UltraFire version is right up there with the best of the best.

I have one on the way.

I’m very tempted to buy it for fun. I wonder if it has the “mode lock” like the UF has (doubt it). So no mode lock or memory, and its advertised to have half the lumen output that the UF has. Does anyone want to regret buying this before I do?

I’m looking to get a “Side-By-Side” setup, but will probably start with a clone first. Do you think the TK35 clone will out throw this Small Sun?

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/new-117-cree-xm-l-t6-4-mode-1000lm-white-led-tactical-flashlight-2-x-18650-included-121493

I have the tk35 clone (from meritline), except mine is also labeled small sun zy-t92. I suspect same oem since the internals all look identical. The current was a mofo to measure (since all the contact points are inside), but it was like 0.8A on high with 4/12/50/100 mode levels IIRC.

It’s obviously not as good as real fenix, but decent enough for $30. The body is IMO a bit unwieldy for the those without big hands.

The spot is the same size as the big reflector lights like Stl-v2/v6, but dimmer. Fairly high temp tint, but not blue. No strobe though, which is nice. The two button setup isn’t really that big of a deal since the fwd switch always turns on in low.

IMO this one looks a bit better in aesthetics, but I think the battery carrier mechanism is pretty nice in the fenix wannabe. The contact ring on this SWM clone looks like it’ll wear down easily.

Me too, almost on the way. Ordered 9/3, but not even shipped yet.. :(

Edit: Welcome to BLF Silverbolt! You'll love being here! :)
