Cutter Electronics

I’ve been to the cutter site more than once, but until today I never realized that their warehouse was only a 10 minute drive from where I live. Not only that, I’m often in the general area for other reasons. So suddenly, ordering from them isn’t so expensive.

Picked up a couple of XP-G2’s today:

I’m really excited about putting these to use, but I haven’t decided which of my lights I’m going to mod yet. It’s fun just thinking about it

Anyway, yeah, friendly helpful people down there.

Its great to have such a choice of leds to choose from, and to know that the bin/colour you order will be what you get…no lottery.
Wish they were based just down the road from me!

Cutter has been a good source for people in Aus. The high shipping cost for other countries, makes less desirable, but they have a good rep for quality products.

Cutter is good , especially if you can pick up … Nice people !

+ They havent said no to a giveaway yet , when I ask if there interested …

hmmm, might be time to drop by …

I believe they have a CPF discount and sometimes reduce the minimum for free shipping. I have dealt with Matt and Marie(?) and they are very helpfull and always faster than HK shipping. I particularly like their multi-led pcbs. Quite an amazing selection. You are fortunate to be local.

Please do tell

Any tips on getting the 20mm PCB down to 16mm? I mean, I could just start cutting and filing it down, but if I can learn from someone else’s previous experience, all the better.

I’m also thinking of putting one of these in my TrustFire Z6 Zoomie, which is somewhat disappointing with an XM-L in it.

I've been told rightly or wrongly that if you grind into the solder contact reducing the diameter that as long as it is insulated so it wont short that it is possible to attain 16mm. Personally I would not do this. I find it to easy to wreck things without resorting to extremes.

This is my effort but I started with a 18mm PCB and ground down to 16.5mm before I chickened out.

Here is a link to the latest Cutter sales on all things LED.

For those interested Cutters have a limited number of XM-L2 1C tint led's in stock. They cost me $7.00 each for bare emitters. I also picked up a few XP-G2 R5 1C bare emitters for $5.95 each. These were also available in a few other tints. According to Matt the XM-L2's are going like hot cakes. Again the counter sales was excellent. There are not cheap as the Chinese sellers are cheaper with stars included but I am confident in what I have purchased is what I wanted.

I did that to a few PCB's, I have a 90 degrees electric sander, I clamp a block of aluminium on it so that the PCB (I sanded them with the led attached) did not get too hot. sanding this way leaves the dielectric layer intact so even when you sand into the solder pads the pads are not shorted with the core. When The PCB is the right size, I sand a tiny 45 degrees edge to prevent shortage of the solder pad to the pill it is getting in.

Hi,

This is a very old thread, but I have a question about ordering from Cutter, and I’m in the U.S. I almost went through their checkout, but came to the choice for shipping. They had a choice for “airmail(no tracking number)” and “registered(no tracking number)” and another choice for EMS, which was like 3 times the other two. Does anyone know if they can do either airmail or registered mail WITH a tracking number? If they can’t do that, why is that?

Thanks,
Jim

I’m sure somebody at Cutter would be able to answer both of those questions, if you asked them.

Cheers

Thanks, I’ll do that, but was thinking that someone here might’ve ordered from them before and knew the answer.

I cant answer your question as I’m in Australia. I went through there ordering process on line and got all messed up with it when I wanted to order on line and pick up from the shop. I just go to the shop now when I can and buy across the counter. Matt is very helpful and has a very quick sleeper turbo Gemini.

Hi,

Thanks, I’ve posted my question(s) to them on their website. I’m hoping that they have an option for including tracking, because I was googling, and it seems like tracking is a free option for international shipping on Aus Post.

When i did my group buy I chose postage without tracking, since it was free.

Got to NJ in 8 days. Extremely well packed.

I think that it’s free shipping if the order is > $149, but otherwise, it was $14 for “Airmail (no tracking number)”. I wouldn’t mind the $14 if it included tracking, but seems kind of high w/o tracking.

They haven’t responded to my questions yet.

My only real beef with them us they can be very slow to respond to emails. They do eventually but it can sometimes take weeks. I’m still waiting on LEDs I ordered in February that were shipped wrong bin. A month went by before Mark was convinced there was even an error. I sent them back and by the time they received them the ones I wanted were out of stock. Last email from Mark was 2 weeks ago. Good people with good products but I’m glad I’ve got IS nearby instead.

Dredging up this thread with appologies to MRsDNF but it is now July and my order of February has not arrived. Correction, the correct order has not arrived. Once in a while I get an email saying to expect them to ship in a week or ten days. The last email was a month ago(from them). Fed up, I sent them an email a week ago requesting a refund on the parts not shipped but haven’t heard from them. This is pretty abysmal. They have great stuff, often unavailable elsewhere but I can’t do business with a company that is this cavalier about customer service. My worst experience with either DX or KD pales in comparison. If any of the Aussie members here ever drop into there store, could you kindly ask them why they ignore their customer service issues. Scratch that, neither I nor I suspect anyone else cares why a company gives poor service, we only want service for payment rendered. It’s a good thing the led for my contest build came from the reliable folks at IS or there would have been no build at all. For a long time now I’ve given them the benefit of the doubt, hoping they would eventually ship my order but really now, 6 months? Really?
