XP-G2 Copper pill P60. Night shots added. Med & low added.

Hi JohnnyMac. The reflector used was this one http://www.kaidomain.com/Product/Details.S010132. This is from there web site,

26.5mm SMO Reflector (Fit for CREE XPG R5) . I dont believe I recieved this exact one as it looks different to the one in the picture as you can see from my shot above.

Ledsmoke. I would say the hotspot is nearly twice the diameter of a Q5 I have in a C8 style smooth reflector. On initial impresions it wont throw as well as the larger reflector. Cheers guys.

Oh I did not expect it to throw as well as a bigger reflectored light at all. No its just that the spot size from a P60 XRE R2 is the nearest thing I've seen in any P60 sized light. But it shows it is good for throw for sure :-)

Oustanding work, MRsDNF! Very nice machining of the thin jacket on the pill as well, looked like it was a bugger to do. Coincidentally enough, I have been in the process of making my own super P60 drop-in...very similar to yours except I'm going to mount the emitter directly to copper. I was planning on using the SF low voltage xpg reflector, but that KD one you used is quite impressive.

That is some nice work!! Very impressive drop in. Looks like some great throw also.

Already said, but it is an impressive drop-in and the throw out of that XP-G2 is also impressive. Thanks for showing us this mod!

Amazing that you can push that much through an xpg-2. Nicely done!

Wow :O

A picture and description of the hosts added to the first post.

Thanks Match and Old-Lumens. You are both a couple of the guys here that a lot of us here learn from and give us inspiration to blow things up and sometimes do something that works.

Rufusbduck. As I have mentioned to you before I'm not very electronicaly minded so I dont know what you do here but it makes really good reading and I hope that you achieve the ultimate driver in the next year or so . Good stuff.

SashiX. Thanks for the mouse overs. I will work out one day how to do it. It really shows the lights as they are. Cheers guys.

I have taken the KD reflector XM-L and XP-G2 for a walk tonight and the later really stands out on the trails. The spill is there without being bright and not as distracting with glare as the XM-L while throwing a lot further. The ever so slightly warmer tint probably helps here. Cheers.

Looks very impressive ..xml's need to start worrying .

There's a new sheriff in town ...

You have till sun up to get the hell out of town .

It would be nice if Cree reworked the XRE to bring it’s thermal conductivity down close to that of XML or create an XML with the geometry of XRE. I doubt they pay much attention to us but this forum is like an auxiliary R&D. You really show how a good, close fit is as important as mass(the pill transferring heat to the host but with thin walls and larger area). It looks to me like you’ve found the sweet spot for a p60. I’m looking forward to seeing how Match can push the envelope on this. Thanks for the shout out but I’m not trying to supersede the other ways of using 7135’s, but just come up with another option.

I had heard that there was going to be an XP-E2 coming out late this year. It all comes down to what home/street/industrial lighting companies want, which isn't always what us lot are after. If there's an application that needs what you're after, you can bet Cree will come out with something, otherwise :(

Great work! Do you think the G2 is out of gas this distance, or perhaps <100 meters. Any way to get lux info?

Out on the trail last night there was really good visibility for about 120 yards and you could make out objects ok at 170 yards. There is a clear view from a bridge to a white house and caravan at a distance of 200 yards and it lit these up really good keeping in mind they are reflective surfaces.

Yeah, fruits and nuts indeed. Well we can always hope somebody wants a better xre.

Thanks. First place finish on these!

Oh, this is exciting… Thanks MRsDNF!

Thanks, Great beam shots and a nice setting you have there MRsDNF.
Really nice throw from the XP-G2 & P60 reflector.
I’m wondering what the consistency is on these reflectors….
If I order 5 of them, what % would shoot a beam like that?
Are the SMO from CNQG comparable?
I will be putting together some XP-G2 P60 when I can some neutral, …it would be ideal if I could get a beam like that.

I'm not sure what the consistency would be as I have only ordered one for the XP-G. You would like to think that they would all be the same. I have ordered two for XM-L's and they are both the same. E1320 may know more on this.
