** ALL you DOG-walkers - FAV LIGHT? **

Slightly over $50 but a NW skyray king would be really good. Or a P60 with NW drop in.

And to oldbobk, if you can get a reasonably high driven xml it’ll warm up the light itself serving as a hand warmer  The king would decimate your hands on high though, so probably throttle down to medium once you feel it getting a bit hot.

SC51w on low on the forehead and a P20C2 MKII neutral xm-l in the jeans back pocket in case i quickly need to see further than the SC51 can throw (great idiot proof forward clicky UI and fantastic beam).

I find headlamps more practical for walking, hands free and they light where you look, neutral is a must for me in outdoor situations, much easier on the brain than cool white.

I sometimes put a illuminated collar on my dog to be able to locate him easily, most are useless but i found one that is ridiculously bright, doesn’t seem to bother the dog.

You want a mix of flood & throw with a side switch and compact form factor then you want a Skyray King or its Fandyfire clone. Either can be had for under $50 and you wont find a better light for the money, IMO.

My dog-walking setup is a headlamp on low or medium, plus a handheld light on medium or high, with my arm just hanging freely at my side. Like oldbobk said, less bounce-back with the main light away from your line of sight, plus fewer bugs hanging around your forehead, plus you see shadows way better, which is important if the trail isn’t smooth. And the headlamp is a must, for when you need both hands free to pick up “stuff”. (the handheld light goes in the pocket temporarily)

The headlamp I use most lately is an Ultrafire UF-H6, and the handheld is an XTAR D35. I wasn’t going to comment in this thread since the D35 isn’t exactly < $50, but I wanted to mention that lights with control rings are just as great (better in my opinion) as lights with side switches. The D35 gives you 100% single-handed operation even with gloves on, and bi-directional mode changing. It’ll never overheat in the winter even if used continuously on High. Electroman, if you want “something a little more substantial”, the D35 fits the bill.

I concur with JamesB about neutral being better, but unfortunately both of these lights aren’t available in neutral. I plan to mod them both with NW some day, when NW U2 bin is available (I hope).

Just go for this one
it’s an ultrafire C8 with xml-t6, i use it everyday for walking with my dog, and for 17.99$ you can’t be f*cked. and they deliver FAST

Balder SE-2 NW, Ultrafire UF-T50, Trustfire TR-J12, Apex 5T6 NW and Solarfore L2P Ace with E1320 NW XM-L dropin. The Balder has been my go-to as of recently though, just a damn fine overall light.

PA40

I have a Sunwayman C20C on the way from DinoDirect, $53 with 10% off.
Sideswitch with nice UI, compact for a 18650, same length but skinnier than a ZL SC600.
Decent throw from the reviews I’ve read, 450lm on turbo.
XM-L u2 emitter.

Currently using my SC600 (a little too thickheaded but bright) or SC60 (perfect size but not as bright)

Hoping for the perfect compromise in the C20C!

I think the side switch is the best option for dog walking. I just took the dogs out with a Surefire C2, and it wasn’t half as comfortable to operate as the Olight S10 I have. The C20C should be a great light for the job.

I use a 501A with a direct drive XML 3 mode: low, high, strobe powered by some IMR 18350s attached to a .45 caliber Glock with a 13 shot clip and a 30 shot clip as backup in my coat pocket. I have a gentle little 160lb Cane Corso and live in the country like you with lots of Coyotes and Black bears plus a large cat was recently spotted in my neighborhood so I refuse to take the chance of having my sweet little baby girl get hurt. I use a Skyray King or a Dry as a walk around light until I need the equalizer.

E1320, that's a good looking dog. Does that lady slobber all over the place? Couple towels needed by the water dish? LOL

Our pug is 1/8 scale to your girl - lol, body shape seems pretty much the same though.

I agree, looks like a pug, except my pug is fawn and not black, lol.

I have close to the same setup for my G23. Cool.

What holster do you use for this?

Couple towels by the water dish yup she is a little sloppy

I don’t have a good holster the Glock with the 501 fits in so I just stick it in my coat pocket

Yeah, our pug is fawn also . . but the shape is spot on.

I like all my lights so I rotate through them after I use them for a week. It also helps to justify buying more since I DO USE THEM ALL!!!

Fenix E21.

The 2xAA format has the best compromise between brightness (I’m one of the rare Eneloop-only guys) and the ability to comfortably carry in a pocket, so that’s why it’d be my choice.
