Solarforce L2 XM-L deal

A great time by the looks of it to be in the market …

Lots of great deals out there ATM

That’s a great deal. Now they just need to do the same with the blue version.

Looks like the L2P has the same deal with 1, 3, and 5 mode dropins. Might have to get me one now…

Sure is a great deal! Too bad for me I'm not in a situation to take advantage of it. :(

the jetbeam blaze? i’m thinking of buying one or the other

The Shiningbeam Blaze has considerably more mass in the headarea and will thus be able to run longer on maximum brightness without damaging the led.
This also makes it a bit frontheavy.

It has a real quality feel to it.

The L2 is better balanced, a bit slimmer and will maybe be a little brighter with the new xm-l u2 compared to the t6 in the Blaze.

The Blaze has a good combination of throw and flood imho, the SF drop-in I don’t know anything about, most people just buy their hosts as the drop-ins from SF generally don’t get much love here on BLF…

I’m having issues with their link. anybody else. I was going to order a couple
of their L2m host.Whats the difference between the one that pops up with this
link(L2) and the L2m? thanks

The L2M can be taken apart and made into a smaller single CR123 light I believe.

The L2M is even better on 18350:s in short-mode, more mah vs 16340:s.

I have the 2011 L2M with reverse clicky :frowning: , the 2012 version has a forward clicky which I personally prefer because of the momentary on…

Problem is I really like the L2T too, check out Foys postings of his, looks great!

thanks guys.Ill check out LT2 also.

Thats not an issue, and unless the heatsinking fans on the blaze are ‘considerably’ bigger (which theyre not) a bigger mass doesnt necessarily translate into larger surface area. And bigger mass doesnt help with heatsinking, surface area does. Because if you think about it, it will draw away heat slightly better initially, due to the specific heat capacity of the metal, but once they both reach the same temperature where does the heat go then? Now its a case of which one allows air to cool it down better.

But anyway, an l2m at 3A wont get hot enough to damage the led. Even at 3.5A it would be fine. Probably even 4A.

I’ve got the blaze and a few Solarforces. The Blaze does in fact heat sink much better. The main downside of most P-60s is poor heat sinking. Even with copper tape, I sometimes have heat problems with one of my P-60 drop ins.

The Blaze is $30 so that might be more or less than you can get a SF. I got a gold SF L2P for $20 on CPF with a 3 mode nail bender drop in and forward clicky. If you can get a nice L2P for less than a Blaze, that would be a deal. I wouldn’t pay much more than the cost of the Blaze for a SF (except the HA3 L2P) because the Blaze is a solid light.

The cons of the Blaze are:

  1. Head heavy
  2. Cool white tint. I like it but some tint snobs like warmer tint.
  3. Heavy
  4. Clunky feeling.
  5. Awkward to hold.
  6. Not a P-60

Blaze Pros:

  1. Waterproof to IPX-8. Confirmed by me that this is highly water proof.
  2. More shock proof than a P-60 style light by design.
  3. Best UI. Forward one mode at clicky but modes can be selected at head.
  4. Was a $60 light and it shows.

Solarforce cons:

  1. P-60 head may need help to heat sink.
  2. Longer than Blaze.
  3. Prob not as shock resistant than Blaze by design.
  4. Prob not as water proof as Blaze but I have no evidence for this.
  5. Larger than needs to be I think.

Solarforce Pros:

  1. It is the most common style in flashlight history. More parts are available for this light than any other. You can buy different drop-ins, tail caps, switches, lenses, bezels, etc. You can truly customize it the exact way you want it.

2. Feels good in the hand.

3. Very balanced in feel and looks. One of the best looking lights out there.

4. If it breaks, you can fix it.

5. Can share some Surefire parts and accessories.

In short, if you want to mod it or customize it, the SF is the one. If you want a no -nonsense working light or Tac light, I think the Blaze is the way to go. I use the Blaze as a weapon light only since it sucks to hold.

Slewflash: I get where you´re going but the Blaze´s head is actually a little bigger isn´t it (i´m at work so I hope i´m right  ) and has some fins too kinda… (which my L2m don´t)

I don´t have a real clue of what amps/heat will destroy a xm-l, I only know that my son managed to drain an IMR18650 to 1.5v in my UF-2100 and in the process burn the xm-l …

Now replaced by one from DD, works like a charm, even better now since since I sputtered the reflector with hairspray, no ringy beam anymore!

Just picked up ANOTHER L2! Boy this site is dangerous!
