More Emitter Test Results (xpg2, xpe2, mtg2) Updated 11-12-12

just waiting for triple XP-G 2 stars to become available. Hopefully someone will start making those!

I just got one from www.illuminationsupply.com. I don't even know what tint ;)

Man, there are a lot of people from WI on this forum.

Iternational outdoors is where i got mine at.

Put one in KD small hole reflector empty dropin module and the beam is nice. Driving with a KD V2 2.2a driver. Its a nice bright setup. Gets warm pretty fast in my L2m running SF protected blue and white. Definately recomend that setup. I have one more xpg2 and going to try it in a big reflectored light just havent decided which one to try it in. Maybe the Jacob A60, or maybe the ebay ultraok 57mm head.

Cutter.com.au is the only place I’ve seen that has R4-5B Neutral White bins in stock at the moment, but shipping’s gonna be killer.

I see those at cutter, but the shipping is three times the led price. :open_mouth:

Group buy .... I'll take 3

5B is the tint I want :)

I’ll wait for the NW or WW to become available from Ill. Supply, shipping is too $$$ from Cutter.

Same here.

XP-G2 R5 3D is most neutral they have left. Nineteen bucks shipped to me. Guess I’ll wait too.

Well I got my 2D mag with XP-G 2 and Rebel reflector done. Just shining it in the house i'm impressed! Had a 3 x 7135 driver sitting around, and I meant to add 3 more 7135's, but wasn't thinking and added 4. So running at 2.4 amps I'm really hitting the max lumens :)

Nice work again Match. That xpg2 really shows a top end. I look forward to seeing the numbers on copper.

Will we see a Nichia test soon? :P

Updated original post, as I will in the future, with new emitters. Enjoy!

The new MT-G2 emitter has so much potential. I cannot wait to see flashlights using it.

MT-G2.

Pick me up of the floor. Are you serious? Match, forget everything else your doing, get a refector around this beast and take beam shots. Please. Sealed

Great stuff Match, THX!!

MTG is one baaaad emitter,on sst 50 currents it surpasses sst 90 lumens. Now to find a suitable driver for it I know there's also a 9,36 volt version too.I wish there was a source stateside for these so I can get on with a build. Thanks a million for your efforts Match, your emitter tests are the gold standard for modders!

Thanks match! Cool results.

Is the emitting area of the MTG-2 die larger, smaller, or similar to the SST-90 die? I wonder how their respective lm/area compare.

I think a proper 2xLi-on 3A output boost driver or a 4xLi-on buck driver meant for triple XM-L could be used with a 9V MT-G2 direct mounted to copper.

What driver would you use for the MTG2? I don't know much about them yet but I'm assuming you'd need a driver that can supply 6V which immediately removes all 7135 based drivers. Actually how do these MTG emitters work - do they need a constant 6V and you up the current to get brighter, or are they like every other LED and the Vf changes the more the current increases? Sorry, the '6V' in the name is throwing me.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that postage from Cutter to me is AUD$10, and I can post international letters to the US for less than AUD$3 a pop. If anyone needs a hand let me know, I'm happy to help.

Yes you’re correct; the MT-G2 works like a ‘normal’ LED (Vf goes up with current, and is also affected by temperature, one reason they require current regulated power supplies).

I will check with you before I order from Cutter next
