Supbeam K40: A Quick Pictorial

The Supbeam L10 isn’t a million miles away from the Thrunite T10 either. I think the firefly modes in many of their lights is a bit of a giveaway.

eddit>> woops, you are on the case!

how about a link?
thanks

I posted a couple size comparisons in this thread

The Supbeam / k3 illumination k40 look like a tn30 reflector and led with a tn31 body and head the only difference I noticed was the tail cap

coupon code blf10

is the reflector of the TN-31 and K40 the same size and depth?

Nope. The K40’s reflector measures approximately 69mm wide and 52mm deep, so while the diameter is almost the same, it’s not as deep as the TN31’s (64mm according to turboBB’s review).

Similar light?

L3 Illumination K40

No same as. Specs are almost the same.

I'm seriously considering the L3 Illumination K40 for $18 more. I like supporting US sellers whenever I can.

How long is blf10 discount code good for?

Has anyone comapred the Supbeam with the L3 Illumination. How much does the extra 0.5A give in terms of throw for example? OR can it be stated just by looking at the reviews done so far….?

Glenn,

That is a must have light.

I probably would give it a 10.

Hi MosesM. I got my K40 just the other day. Gosh, that thing is darn well-built, irrespective of price. The machining, the anodizing, the fit and overall quality of the light is terrific.
I ordered it based on your report and I must say, it HAS to be the best-buy for under $100. And DHL too! It arrived 2 days after being shipped.
None of that 3 week waiting period via China post. Btw, I don’t have a whole lot of disposable income (I’m semi-retired) so I limit my purchases to <$100.
Many thanks

$90 incl shipping - not bad at all - considering the build quality. Sup beam synonymous with super beam? After seeing some of the pics and close resemblance to Thrunite models, I am tempted to get this. For the price and the quality, this is totally desirable.

BanglaBob: You’re welcome, glad to help feed the addiction

ZT: For us in SG, our choices in this price range is either this or the Thrunite TN31 which is available for US$139 at the moment. I have the TN31 also and honestly, the additional $40 isn’t worth it.

Seriously, the only flaw with this light is that damned brand name. I have nothing to say on warranty/after-sales service though, haven’t had a need for it yet

In case it is not already posted, the Supbeam now comes as 3.5A as standard. I ordered two yesterday. 91 USD shipped to Sweden with Fedex.

The specs between K40 & TN31 are similar down to the last details. Only the external appearance differs somewhat. Branded under a different name and sweetened with a lower price. Guess if I decide to go with a thrower, this will be the one. 700m throw - I’m digging it. $90 shipped - wow.

For those of you wondering about the reflector opening and such, I posted two new pics in the opening post!

Thanks for the update! I'm not positively itching to get the xml2 version :)

Hopefully it also has a copper plate in there... and can be pushed a lot more :D

So I know Wayne (VinhNuygen) is modding these over at CPF to boost the drive current in the 3 highest modes but being greedy he doesn’t share any details about what hes doing to accomplish that. Would I be able to stack AMC135’s myself? I can physically solder/stack them but is that all it takes or is there something else required to boost the current? Would I be able to do all the chips so I boost all the levels or are the lower 3 modes driven by some other part of the driver other than the 7135’s? I don’t have any use for low levels in a light like this (but I’m not complaining that it has the low’s cause I know its personal preference) so I wouldn’t mind a increase across the whole range of levels.

AMC7135’s ???
are you sure you are talking about right driver? because driver from K40 doesnt use AMC’s at all…

You would boost the current by adding SMD resistors to the driver.

More about that here: Here is how to mod the ThruNite TN-31 flashlight...

I’m pretty sure the TN31 is a Supbeam OEM, so the innards and the circuit should be very similar.
