XML throw questions

I am new to BLF and cree led type flashlights. I want to order a XML, I found 3-that cought my eye. 1) Ultrafire th-t60 5-mode 1200 lm 2) Ultrafire nh-t60 3) Ultrafire kh-t60 All the above I found at DX. I want one that will throw rather than flood. I have read lots of posts on BLF and I know that I am in the rite place. I would appreciate any advice on my future purchase.

Thanks Dave

For throw you want the light with the largest reflector.

I haven't any experience or knowledge of those lights you have listed. But again, for throw it is all about reflector size.

Yes, and I believe you will want a smooth reflector. As I understand, there are better emitter choices for throw.

the uf-980l is an amazing thrower with xml..both p60 xmls I have are floody lights..the larger reflector is the key to throw with the xml..

What site for the uf-980l ?

Thanks Dave.

www.manafont.com

Its a bonus that manafont seems to be one of the best places to order budget lights from!

yes Manafont is an amazing place and ships so fast..never thought it was possible from a hk dealer..i'll have a review of the 980l soon enough when I get some free time to get a beamshot or 2..but for a thrower with xml I have not seen any better than the 980l..

Ultimate thrower: Brinyte XML-C5

5,5-6,5cm deep reflector!

But unfortunately it´s a 1-mode and i don´t know anything about the driver in this flashlight.

(i have the same with 3-mode driver(selfbuild))

One of the reasons I am considering one of the 3 flashlights mentoned above is DX claims 3000 ma output and the other is that they are rated at 1200 lm.

How does the 980l and Brinyte compare in output? I realize that you never know what you're gona get from china and seeing is believing.

I do realize that they lie there a$$e$ off about LM's is this also the true with output?

Thank's guys for letting me pick your brains and for all the helpfull info.

Output should be near the same (with XML driver).

The reflector of the 980l looks like, it has the same deep like e.g. C8 (42x33mm).....Brinyte´s has ~double deep. (much more throw)

So ugly though! the hex "nut" appearance just annoys me, If the head was simpler, id be having those in my collection.

Indeed i kind of dislike hard the plumbing tube look.

the 980l drives the xml at 4.6a on certain low resistance cells I have..others it's 3.8a and so on..I use the higher resistance cells to lower the amperage draw for led longevity..you can't drive this led any harder without hurting it so the 980l is as bright as the xmls can get..someone correct me if i'm wrong?

here's a crappy phone pic to show you the beam profile of the 980l..this is on medium (1.2a) i'll have a review this weekend when i'm not working..

XM-L best drives at 3,5A.

From 3,5A - 4A it´s not really brighter and over 4A it´s only hotter.

(my Brinyte C5 drives 5,14A with full charged 18650, little bit too much)

edit: ah, the 980l and my Brinyte maybe have the same driver. the driver of 980l look´s like the ultrafire xml-dropin driver.....and this driver is now in my Brinyte.

exactly why I use the higher rersistance cells..I have a couple that will allow a 4.6a draw and I label those so I don't use them in this light..

I don't mind the that it's 1-mode.

Any experience with the Brinyte xml-900 2-18650 at DX ? Is this one also a thrower?

The Ultrafire nh-t60 looks like a possiable thrower.

I am not going to order any more flashlights without without a thumbs up from BLF members.

So what do ya think brinyte xml-900 thumbs up or down?

Thanks for the help.

The Brinyte xml-900 & Ultrafire nh-t60 has not a deep reflector, i think, both reflectors are C8 similar (in deep ~33mm).

So, Brinyte C5 XML throws wider.

p.s. the hotspot and spill is much less, than my other XML lights, but the spill of the Brinyte "delete" the spill of all my other flashlights.

yep they look identical to the 3 mode uf drop in at manafont..pretty nasty driver i'd hate to see the current draw on an IMR cell..

Thanks Andi and Pounder for all the usefull information. Now I see there is a cree xml u2 1300 lm at KD. Not much info on it I am assuming it isn't a thrower either?

Looks like i'll try the Brinyte 1-mode.

Yes, for Throw, i think, the Brinyte is best.

I hope, the driver delivers the needed mA for a XML.
