Test / Review: Xtar 18650 3400mAh (Black)

Xtar 18650 3400mAh (Black)

Official specifications:

  • Voltage::3.6V
  • Net Weight: 47g
  • Size: 18.4±0.1mm x 68.5±0.5mm
  • Battery Capacity:3400mAh
  • Cell: Panasoinc lithium cell inside

This is the latest cells from Panasonic with the highest capacity with added protection and button top from Xtar.
The cell used can be discharged down to 2.5 volt, in my test I only discharges to 2.8 volt, i.e. I do not measure the full capacity. But then, not all lights will be able to use the full capacity.

The tracking between the two batteries are good (as expected).

The over current protection is at "only" 6A, this will protect the batteries from mistreatment, but gives the battery a slightly lower output voltage at high current.

Conclusion

This battery has higher capacity and better high current capacity than its predecessor Xtar 3100mAh.
Xtar has added protection to a good cell, making a very good battery.

The batteries was supplied by Xtar via www.lajt.se for review.

And with some small differences between the finished product: different top, different length, different protection circuit.

In most cases you can use any of them, but some lights does require have special requirements.

hi henrik! no metal plate at the bottom? just a PCB?

It does look like a PCB with the yellow color.

Thanks for the review

Thanks very much for the review! Frontpage’d and Sticky’d.

Keepower 3400 Mah cells have that same yellow plate. I have been told that it is a gold plated metal plate and it certainly looks it when looking at the cells up close and personal.

ken

A PCB can also be gold plated metal: PCB is copper and it is easy to get a gold plating on it.

yeah i’ve got some of those cheap trustfires with PCB bottom. after some time they get all scratched up. very soft!

does a magnet stick?

It does, but only weakly, because it there is a few mm between the bottom and the metal.

Detailed review,thx a lot

Can I order this cell from somewhere say fasttech?

Guys, do you realize how much money HKJ saves us in doing these awesome battery reviews. I can’t think of a better member or smarter member than him when it comes to telling it like it is and giving us the best in detail battery reviews every single time. I am truly thankful that he is here, and I personally want to thank him here for his time in doing all of these great battery reviews. I pretty much go buy what he says. It’s kind of like buying good insurance for batteries when you know your getting what you pay for in advance before you buy.

Thanks again.

Brad

+1 on that. Was at work hence the quick posting…
