What you got today

It may be like my TK-45 which presents both the + and - terminals at the head end of the battery carrier. If that is the case you may need to use an extra wire with alligators to make one connection between the head/driver and the battery pack, and your dmm to make the other. Clear as mud?

Some cruddy beam shots are up here:

And photon, sorry, I am unclear about how test current still. Clear as mud yup lol. Forgive my lack of knowledge with this stuff. I am still pretty new to this all :)

How does it look? worth the extra few cents? and will the hinge last? Infact, is it good enough to use as a pocket clipped battery pack?

Today I got:

DX:

- R2 one mode dropin (it is now on an L2P clone by skyray with a focus lens and it throooows)

- Uniquefire G10 6 mode black

cnQuality Goods:

- Yezl Z1 XML

Solarforce Sales:

- 2xL2i (AAA) (black and gray)

- 1xL2 black + two extensions

- 1xL2 (1x16340 / 2x16340)

No worries at all - forget I asked. I'm not much beyond the very basics myself.

If you're curious about DMM measurements in the context of flashlights, there is an excellent post by HKJ called "Simple guide to using a DMM for measurements". Despite the many sins of that place, it still has a wealth of information contributed by some very knowledgable people. The very first section of that post deals with measuring current consumption. Be sure not to miss the subsection titled "Other types of light" [sic], where he gives examples of measuring current in lights that do not have a tail cap.

I *finally* got my Solarforce L2p from Solarforce Sales today (ordered Feb 16 and a victim of HK Post). It's definitely a nice piece of work. I have the L2 and like it, but this one definitely seems more rugged. The finish and knurling actually remind me of the Ultrafire 502B which is one of my favorites anywa. Of course the threads are cut better than the 502B, just buttery smooth. I was afraid mine might not have the gold interior, but it does. I think my Manafont 3-mode XM-L will go in there.

Also got the $3.60 DMM yesterday from eBay, but it was delivered through the mail slot and my dog chewed it up. He had gotten hold of the package for the Ultrafire X1 earlier in the week, but didn't do any damage to the light (seemed to really enjoy the bubble wrap envelope though). But the plastic DMM was toast. I thought I had a foolproof system for protecting the mail, but he got through. Might order another one, though I already have something similar. With two I could measure current in and current out at the same time.

Lol silly dog. Good thing it wasn't a Fluke!

Need 4 actually!!! haha, one pair for voltage and current at each end of the driver...

I was happy i recieved a notice to pick soemthing form post office but turend out to be "just" neodymium magnets. Still pretty fun to play with. Those are not for me but nonetheless i will play a little with them. Feeling like a 5y old kid.

Getting spoilt with expecting flashlights with each package....

Just arrived, a rather odd light from DX. Apparently it is designed for examining jade and jewellery.

First impression, it's very heavy (178g with a cell)

Second impression is that the beam is pretty good but very, very warm. Review to follow.

Looking very good i must admit.

For those who are waiting for some package try this to ease the wait.

3 Sipik SK68 from Focalprice . It was a weekend deal and I payed a total of 24.48$. They have all XR-E LEDs (!). I ordered them 03-05-2011 and they arrived yesterday at the post office. So far I just tested them quickly with a Alkaline battery and they all work fine. Two of them look quit nice, but the third one is a bit scatched, despit all came in bubble wrap and card board boxes. I'm still satisfied with the deal.

I picked them up today. The post office is 35 minutes away by car. I think invironment friendly. Unless there isn't any other good reason to take the car, usually I don't go there just to get three Sipiks. There are exeptions of that rule though. The arrival of the first C8 XM-L was reason enough to kill some trees. I'm sure most of you would agree.

I also have got five 16-mode drivers (1000mA) from KD along with one 8xAMC driver board. I ordered these 02-11-2011.

OMG.... Wasted an afternoon doing useless clicking...

Knowing KD, probably not. Their specs tend to be less than useful. I'd guess, like mine it is intended for jade and jewellery examination.

Added beamshots beside an XM-L in an HS-802 thrower.

With the beam shroud on. The XM-L beam is not that blue and green horror shown here - the camera's white balance was trying hard. There was no other light on the ceiling. The beam is heavily reduced by the shroud.

Shroud removed

I received my 763 from Exduct today. It arrived sharp enough to shave hair from my arm! Lockup is tight without any vertical or side to side movement. It is a little stiff to open by just pushing the thumb stud. But releasing the lock allows it to open with a flick of the wrist. Being a lefty, the first thing I did was move the clip to the other side. With the clip holding my jeans pocket firmly against the textured G10, there is no way the knife is going anywhere by accident. The G10 combined with the nice jimping make it unlikely to slip from my hand even when wet. I'm quite happy with the 763 and may get another one.

It's not that they don't realise there is a diffrence, it's more that they don't care what the law is at all.

This is long an rambeling and probably best ignored...you have been warned! :P

While I do have a TV it's not been used as one ever - it's connected to a DVD player and the like, so I don't need a licence.

I used to get letters every couple of months telling me I had to have a licence. Their letters are terribly presumptive and are written as if they know you watch TV.

About once a year I would phone them up pointing out that you are not actually allowed to threaten people with undue legal action and that would be the end of the letters for a while.

Four years ago a disgustingly arogant TV licensing goon banged on my door, I wasn't feeling great so I ignored it. Then she started banging on the window and shouting "HELLO...HELLO" .

She said who she was, I told her the situation and then closed the door...more banging. So I opened it and asked her what on earth she wanted, she shouted that they were going to take me to court unless I paid up or let them "inspect" my house. She ranted some more and then back to the idle threats. I informed her that I was withdrawing her implied right of access and that if she didn't leave immediately I'd have her arrested, I closed the door on her.

I then emailed the TV licensing and the BBC complaints department informing them of their removed rights and that it would apply to any agents acting on their behalf. TV licensing sent an apologetic confirmation and that's the last I heard from them.

Thanks for the photos and review photon1k! It makes me all the more excite to receive mine :D
