Cheapo P7 dropins in UF hosts @ DX

It seems I'm starting some kind of a tradition ;)

Kick me in the head if it was mentioned already.

Even if it's more like 500-600 lumen and with sh*tty heatsinking, for that price... looks interesting :)

I've ordered one of the P7 dropins just to see what it's like.

I really don't need any new P60 hosts at the moment.

It has been shipped (22 April allegedly but it doesn't seem to have made it into the HK Post tracking system yet - however it just told me it was broken and to try again later.) but the mail here is a bit chaotic at the moment due to most of Europe's airports having been closed for 6 days. US Post is estimating 4-5 weeks to the UK at present

The flight problems are why I'm not ordering anything anytime soon - to save myself the waiting ;)

OK, if so, I'm waiting for your review. I still have a spare 18650 cell, so that $3 body in addition to the dropin would be nice...

The P7 dropin mensioned by Don looks interresting, but I think I´ll wait to hear his opinion.

This will likely take a while. Post seems to be chaotic just now.

My guess is that unless multi-die LEDs are driven hard and better heatsinked than a P60 module can really do, they make no sense in the era of R5 and better

(S2 bin is overdue now by two months) binned XP-G R5 LEDs. Certainly the DX MC-E dropin I have is beaten by the R5s.

The KD MC-E dropin when driven beyond spec is very bright but it also shuts off after about 10 seconds on high. This is running it at 8.4V instead of 4.2)

Remember that P60 modules were designed for use with incandescent bulbs which need to be hot.

Still, if this gets driven at 2.8A it ought to make a lot of light as long as it doesn't overheat.

Apologies for the odd formatting - the Safari word wrapping bug is back.

WF-502B is ordered. Definitely worth the price.

Heh, Safari makes me crazy too. I'm exclusively using Firefox now.
