Supbeam X40 - Infinitely Variable to @3K lms

Look what the DHL man brought in time for Xmas today!

A couple observations: Comparable in brightness to my TN30, with identical hotspot but smaller spill.

The magnetic control ring has only two detent settings - at lowest setting and highest setting (just before strobe) and is infinitely variable in between both settings with a smooth twisting motion of the ring. Very nice. I think this a first for an LED this bright, no?

No holster, but direct charger is included. NO INSTRUCTIONS! I don’t know the retail, but got a deal for pre-ordering.

Here’s a few pics:

From left to right: X40, TN30, BS Terminator:

that’s SWEET!

infinite variable is awesome in a light w/ that kind of output!

i bet if you move it VERY carefully you’ll be able to distinguish levels, but enough of them that you’ll never notice in actual use

what do you think of the ring? wouldn’t you rather it had knurling or something like that?

The ring has “steps” that provide some traction. They function well, but they are smooth so I guess they could slip off fingers. But they’re not a problem for me at all.

do you use just your thumb or add forefinger?

There’s enough tension that you have to use both. It’s smooth, though.

Nice! So tell us how much and where?

Direct from Supbeam. I did a special pre-order and promised not to say price. However, if it ends up retailing LESS than I paid I’ll let you all know!

That’s a real nice looking light. I’m going to keep an eye open for this one. Hopefully the price will be resonable for it.

post the beam shots please… especially against with TN30

That light looks nice! Can you take beamshots and pics of the inside?

What’s the lowest output? Thanks.

No beamshots, but here’s some inner pics:

The supbeam website says 3 lms, but I’d guess more like 20 lms. It’s really just right for me. I don’t have a light meter or any way of doing a measurement, so I’m just guessing.

So when it's on the lowest setting can you look at the LEDs without it hurting? I'm guessing not. :(

What do you think about this TM11 holster? It fits the X40perfectly, but doesn’t cover the tube entirely. My large Ultafire (not shown) does cover the entire light, but the flap isn’t long enough to close.

You guessed right! It’s a bit too bright for that.

Thanks for the pics, the insides look a lot like the thrunite’s. The battery carrier looks anodized, is there no flickering issues? battery carrier is reversible right?

How is the color tint on your light compared to the other ones you got? Colder warmer, more yellow, green, blue, purplish, etc?

No flickering issues, cool white very similar to SRK but slightly smaller spill and tighter hot spot for greater throw, beam is very similar to Terminator, but I don’t think it’s quite 3K lumens.

Battery carrier NOT reversible

is it brighter then your tn30

That's a great looking light!
