Angeleyes won't discharge

I got my Angeleyes charger today (SHAN SH-168DLCD) and although it had a few problems at first (won't boot) it was magically fixed by several pluging and unpluging the power and now charges perfectly.

But it won't discharge any batteries I have, not even those it charged itself.

It starts discharging, but after a minute or two all four digits of every bay flash, which means (according to the manual) either the batteries are dead (which they are not, voltage is 1.4 after being charged in this charger) or they are the wrong type (they are NiMH) or the ambient temperature is not in the range of -5C-35C (which it is - a nice 20 degrees C, and also my IR thermometer says the charger / batteries are ~23-25C).

Any ideas why this happens?

I've almost never seen the flashing digits - just on trying to charge dud cells. Cells that the Angeleyes had discharged. I've never seen it on discharge.

I hate to say this, but I fear you have a faulty one.

Ok, thanks, I'll contact the seller.

btw, the manual says the charger accepts only "AA or AAA Nickel-Hydrogen / Nickel-cadmium battery".

I guess by "Nickel-Hydrogen" they mean NiMH? I saw in Wikipedia there's some chemsitry called NiH2, and wiki says it is different than NiMH...

I would assume so - it's the first I've heard of nickel-hydrogen cells. If you have any NiCd cells I'd try one just to see what happens.

Having looked at the Wikipedia article, you certainly are never going to get a nickel-hydrogen cell in AA size. That would be what is known as a hand grenade.

The seller sent me a replacement (even before he received the defective charger! Great service), and it works with all my batteries.

The seller is http://stores.ebay.com/coolshopper08 , and has some items which may be of interest to BLFers (Angeleyes battery analyzer, eneloops, LiFePo4 AAs, etc.).

I tested my "new generation" Recykos and "green generation", and saw that they are both close to declared capacity. I'll post results in the battery database when I'll have the full test done.
