Sanyo UR18650ZT 18650 2800mAh review/test

I did not make that mistake, that was a copy from the website. But I do make mistakes and the only way to fix them is if somebody tells me about it.

So is it really UR18650ZT @4.2V?
It seems to be the same discharge curve like xtar 2600 or formerly listed Sanyo black. On hkjs site

But on lygate not. Iam confused…

HKJ could you please list the real names, normally they are printed on the cells. If you have to peel off the shrink you could fix this easily. On fast tech there is shrink tube very cheap…

His info box says “UR18650ZT” already.

There the 4.3V Sanyo is the best and its cheap, too sad that there is no protected version available…
And we don’t know how it behaves at 4.2V

And then compare on hkjs site, i am confused about Sanyo cells…

This tested cell is worse than a trustfire flames 3000…

Generally I list the name the batteries are sold under, i.e. if I buy a battery that is called "Sanyo 2600mAh", I will list it as "Sanyo 2600mAh".

In the actual test/review I have a info box where I will list the actual cell name (If I know it), where I got the battery and a lot of other stuff.

I have checked my ur18650zt from cnq with clear tube and I can read it clearly against light, engraved from top to bottom. Right there where the two parts of the outer cell meet, i will make a photo…

Please is it really red cover on the 2800mAh ZT version?
It looks like orange and elsewhere is named as UR18650ZT 2800mAh violet/orange 4.3V.
What does the “bv” mean in the name you gave it?
You can see a wide selection of Sanyo, LG, Samsung on keeppower, Sanyo’s (FM and ZT, unprotected and protected (probably made in house) as well) have a good deal on FastTech. That’s where I want to get a couple of Sanyo’s and decide whether to take a ZT or FM.

Here are my notes and what I found elsewhere:

The ring color denotes capacity.
The cover color probably indicates different voltage.

UR18650FM is a good battery so I’m interested to see how do the newer ones perform.
Yes if they are 4.3V and 4.35V, their capacity at 4.2V will be around 2650-2800.

They can be easily compared to the LG an Samsung 4.3V 18650s.
This includes the UR18650FM 2600mAh!

What a surprise right? UR18650FM is very similar to LG 18650 C2.

HKJ can you determine what is the final voltage of a particular battery?
Can the Sanyo UR18650FM hold 4.3V as well? Or 4.25V?
I think lithium batteries are not tolerant to overcharge?
Basically the battery should start to heat up when it begins to get overcharged and it won’t hold the higher voltage.

How do you charge the 4.3V and 4.35V batteries to this voltage?
The Imax you have, or am I wrong?, can be set to charge to higher voltage?







Here you find the 2800mAh Sanyo as well, it scored pretty bad though, as did the 2800mAh in HKJ’s test. Ebay source, UK seller big_f_d_d. You have to check other batteries from the shop to see their discharge comparisons.


JackCY, I have UR18650A’s with white ring (on top) - I think you should add that to the list :wink:

“Confirmed”. It’s not hard to find out, just put the code name into google images :bigsmile: Chinese shops (alibaba) will show up and their pictures of batteries. So yeah, some may be fakes, some not, but hey, we all shop on Chinese shops mostly anyway.

Just wondering, where you got Sanyo 3000mAh cells for testing? And, seeing how poorly they did, have you charged them up to 4.35V?

Yeah I wanted to clarify that, I don’t test, I just collect info from net, I found the two graphs full of batteries on one ebay listing with some batteries (Panasonic 3100mAh) and saved it. The code and partial list that I verified with keepower, fasttech and HKJ photos is from “laserpointerforum”:Sanyo 18650 batteries from cnqualitygoods.com | Page 2 | Laser Pointer Forums - Discuss Laser Pointers | High Power Lasers. IMHO they were charged to 4.2V in the red/blue graph from ebay seller big_f_d_d. Personally I think LG, Samsung and Sanyo might be very similar. If not even having the batteries made in the same factory or copying each other. I doubt Sanyo’s are made in Japan, all they can they moved to Korea or China, cheaper to make it there. The Sanyo ZT 2800mAh 4.3V and ZTA 3000mAh 4.35V don’t look good so far and nobody seems to have any to test them. Are they so new? The FM 2600mAh 4.2V might actually outperform the ZT and ZTA at 4.2V, which is kind of sad. The FM seems like a powerhouse, it just doesn’t extend as far as other batteries but rather keeps higher voltage all the way until it drops rapidly. On HKJs testd it even seems to beat the Panasonics, nothing holds the voltage so high as the FM only the 4.3V LGs and Samsungs. That’s why I ask if the FM is not by a chance also 4.3V and if somebody can safely test it.

Nope, FM is 100% not 4.3V, it first appeared in 2006 (or so) when 4.3/4.35V cells weren’t even heard of.

Were they this good even back then? So far I can’t find another battery like that. All the other ones except new 4.3V+ seem to drop voltage much more compared to the Sanyo 2600mAh.

HKJ: the size of the ZT 2800 you tested is with protection right? Because it does not seem big unprotected nor is anywhere said it’s bigger. The bigger length is probably due to the big button top and a protection PCB on your particular version that uses this ZT cell.

When I know the correct cell type, I usual write it in the info box.

But with the Sanyo I did miss it the first time around. This has been corrected on both Sanyo batteries now.

That it is from bestvaping, all my tested batteries must have different names and I already had one called "Sanyo 18650 2600mAh (Red)".

When overcharging LiIon the voltage will continue to rise, until the battery breaks down.

The ICharger can charge to 4.3 volt, but I uses a computer controlled power supply when testing.

Yes, a unprotected battery is usual 65 mm long.

Thanks for the info, so like I thought the 2800mAh version is with a protection worse than the 2600mAh version. That was my impression, too.

Hkj how about stripping the protection on one of these and making a 4.3V test?
I could send some dollar with PayPal, for destroying your cell.

I could send you one of mine,but shipping in eu is more than a whole cell with shipping from china.

I will probably buy some new unprotected cells later on and test them at both 4.2 and 4.3 volt.

But it will be some time, I have more than enough batteries at the moment.
