reverse- to forward- clicky ?

What is the correct (technical) name for the reverse clicky found on most f-lights. And, the correct name for the equivalent forward clicky.

If I manage to get ( the right ) forward clicky, is it difficult to replace the reverse clicky with a forward clicky ?

Wouldn't mind experimenting with a Powerlight. Would really prefer a forward clicky, especially if I could turn it on briefly by gently pressing the switch.

Thanks.

I just got some forward clickies from KD this week. I wanted to upgrade the clicky on my direct driven Uniquefire S10 since it is only 1 mode now. I figure any 1-mode light is better as a forward clicky. However, I couldn't get it to work. The forward clicky is bigger than the white reverse clicky and the pieces don't fit back together without some serious modding even though I had no problem soldering it to the board where the white clicky was.

So then I thought maybe I would put one in my 1-mode WF-502B because I really liked its output and wasn't minding the 1-mode so much. However, I couldn't even get that to work with these switches. So I think it is harder than people sometimes make it out to be.

Where can I find a picture of a reverse ( or forward ) clicky ?

Here are picturess of the forward clicky from KaiDomain (black) and the clicky out of my Uniquefire S10 for comparison. I was able to take the white switch off and solder the black switch into its place, but it was just too big to make it work. It wound up being compressed in the tail and wouldn't click. I couldn't unscrew the retainer or else the battery wouldn't fit.

Cool, thanks brted for the pics!

I just got some forward clickies this week from Shiningbeam for less than $2.00 each. They are about the size I'd guess of the white one in the picture above but they are aluminum it looks like and are for a Romisen flashlight. It looks like they are their own retaining ring as well as the outer ring is threaded.

I'm using them however in a P60 host. They are smaller in diameter than the current switch and the spring is shorter. This isn't a problem in the P60 host however. I just removed the retaining ring from the tailcap, took out the reverse clicky and just dropped in the forward clicky. It becomes a secure and tight fit after the retaining ring is put back in and tightened up against the forward clicky.

The only other issue I had was with the rubber button cover. I took that off and cut out the "stub" that is on the understand of most button covers. This was causing the clicky to not "click". It was working as a momentary switch but wouldn't click after I tightened everything down.

I changed switches in two lights. In only one of the lights I noticed that the retaining ring had a plastic insert in the center hole. The forward switch would click but not actually work until I punched out that plastic insert.

So, no soldering and no difficult changes need to be done to get a forward clicky with a P60 sized light. I can't comment on larger lights as I haven't tried experimenting with them. I just got my first forward clicky this week so I thought I'd share what I've learned.

I hope it helps someone.

This is my first post here. I'm also am over at CPF and budget lights are my main interest so this should be an interesting site for me!

I'm glad you signed up and posted and Welcome! There is some great stuff here.

I got a couple of the RC-G2 forward clickies (the whole assembly) from shining beam first because I was placing an order with them anyway. But those were crimped into their houseing. I ended up tearing the actual switches apart trying to get them out of the metal housing. They have some other ones, did you get those?

I don't have the model numbers or invoice handy right now. I seem to remember they were for a A4 (is that possible)?

They were less than $2.00. The switches that you were tearing apart...was that for an entire tailcap assembly or something?

It wasn't the tailcap, but the whole part that screwed into the tailcap. I think the other size is for the RC-N3.

I just checked. Mine was the RC-G2 as well. What kind of light were you trying to put them into. I didn't tear them apart at all. They were designed to be screwed in but the diameter was a lot smaller than by P60 host so I just used them as is as a direct replacement but I used the existing retaining ring to hold them in place. It worked well.

Edit: OK, now that I look at the website I could have the N3 or the G2. I can't remember and they look the same on the website. When I ordered them I had some info from another website that lead me to believe that they might work. It was a gamble but it worked.

What I really wanted to know is : assuming I get a forward clicky of the correct dimensions, is it just a matter of replacing the reverse clicky with the forward clicky ?

There's a electronics "Treasure Island" called Lamington Road (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamington_Road) in my city, wouldn't be surprised if I actually found a forward clicky.

The short answer is yes, it's that easy. Also if you just buy the switch and not a whole replace tailcap it should be cheap as in $2.00.

I'm not sure that there is such a thing as a generic forward clicky though. They tend to be sold for particular flashlights by the company that made that flashlight. On second thought there are some generic models and if the size is correct they should work just as well.

Some people buy a generic forward clicky that isn't the correct size (because that's all that they can find) and then desolder the old switch and use part of that and part of the new switch and solder everything back together. This would be more work and more trail and error.

I found some forward switches made by Romisen that work for most P60 host sized lights. When I first replaced one with the other I had a problem with the clicky button sticking. It worked fine before I put it in the light but it wasn't quite working correctly in the switch.

This may happen to you. If it does you just have to figure out why it's happening and correct that. I didn't have to do much to make it work.

OK, thanks. No one knows the correct name for a forward clicky ? Wouldn't know what to ask for ;-) .

Guess, I could disassemble the tailcap of my UF SS C3 and take it with me.

If you look for it on a flashlight webiste it will be called a forward clicky or a forward tail switch but in an electronics store the best I can come up with as a more common description when talking to a sales clerk would be to ask for a momentary switch that is also able to be clicked to stay on.

I would really like to find a replacement also. My s10 switch broke too. So CPF if you found one, hook a brother up!

sorry no. the shops i visited could not even understand what a forward clicky is.

there is a guy selling forward clickies for the RC-G2, if i remember correctly. google forward clicky romisen rc-g2.

ok here : http://flightinwinter.com/clicky-switch-for-romisen-rcg2-p-158.html
