Well he calls himself Rufusbduck

With his skill he doesn't need luck

His mods are so clever

We love it whenever

He shows us the gold he has struck

dem rhymes!

I’ve been immortalized by Jack the Clipper, how humbling. Now I just have to make sure it works. Thanks, I appreciate the kudos.

Bumped for update.

Are those rubber jaws in the vise or metal?

The build is looking really nice!

It’s a Zyliss. A bit if a pita but its what I have. The jaws covers are plastic with a swivel and another v-groove that runs lengthwise. It also has plain flat covers as well as some other parts like a remote clamp for long items, a drill collar, and a spindle pivot. There’s a utube commercial out there somewhere.

Compared to this one, the build quality of the first was not so good. But that’s how it goes. I don’t think this one will perform any better but at least … won’t be embarrassed to say he paid for it.

Does that mean I get a refund ?

Oh, wait...

Sure, 100%. Heh, heh, had I known just how much better the second one would be, I would not have given away the first. As is quite obvious to you ChicagoX, the first brassie I turned out was poorly machined. It was a concept that I think works but there had to be a first before I could improve the second. I’m more interested in longer term impressions. I never did a run time test but expect somewhere in the 20-30 min range. Does it still get too hot(I didn’t think so), would a narrower beam be more useful(probably keep both lenses available at first). Things like that or anything constructive. “What a POS” is a possibility if the free light is an insufficient bribe.

I haven't done runtime tests or put it in the integrating sphere yet, but it seems to be handling the heat very well.

I think the choice of optics is very appropriate for a keychain/EDC light. The beautiful, perfectly even beam is excellent for close-to-medium distance use - typical of what the light would be called upon to illuminate.

I have 2 pills almost ready so when they are done I’ll do a side by side wall shot with SS and RS optics just for sng’s.

A whole boatload of pics added to the first post.

Seems like this got time zoned. I’ve bumped it to give you all a second chance to check it out.

The fact that you made the brass heatsink sans lathe is nothing short of amazing.

I cannot work on lights this small without wrecking something, so kudos to you !

Very nice Mr duck. Looking at your mods I'm glad guys like you don't have lathes. You would embarrass us guys that do have lathes severely. Again, extremely nice work. Well done. Now back to the bath with you.

Quack, quack.

Amazing work Rufusbuck! When I tried your method on a drill press it simply ended with the hacksaw blade getting pulled out of my hand...

I attach it to a block of wood with a screw every inch and use wd40 as lubricant. Makes it pretty easy to do. The hardest part is guaging the height of the blade on the work(bad eyes). I did another Minimag I’ll post tonight.

Awesome work on that sleeve, Rufus, and on the whole light as well! Impressive what you areable to do with regular tools. 8)

but scaru I had to chuckle when I read this and strangely enough, even though I dont know you, I can actually picture this happening to you. CryLaughing
