Review: Black Shadow Terminator 4*U3/4*18650

I would love to calibrate my IS against a regulated and ANSI certified light that puts out 3000 OTF lumens or more. Once calibrated against that light I'd retest the Terminator and see what I get. I'm sure it would be higher than what I tested now. At the price the dealer mentioned is selling them I wouldn't walk, I'd RUN and grab one ASAP before the price changes. This light really is this good in my experience.

Thanks for the info… I emailed their vendor to see when the u3 will be sold.

What lux reading do you get and at what distance? I’d like to compare it to mine.

I don’t think that the sphere size is an issue. I get the same values using the internal sensor and the external sensor (that sees 1/100 the light of the internal one) on my 16” sphere. Also, the numbers that I get with my 15,000 lumen light ( 15,000 Lumen Bridgelux C9000 Light Engine ) match Bridgelux’s published data quite well.

Just picked one up for $118 shipped to Canada brand new for the U2 version. Knowing that once you get that bright, a few hundred lumens is barely noticeable to the eye, I didn’t Need the u3 version. For the price, it sounds like a fine piece of light! And it should arrive around when my tk75 arrives so I can’t wait to compare!

I am also curious on lux numbers of the U2.

damn, word is out. might not be able to wait, johnny

I really love the form factor of this light. I am holding out till xml2 though

I haven’t measured the U2 lux number (if I did I must have them written down somewhere. Just need to find them). I can’t remember the exact lux recorded for the U2 @ 1m but IIRC it worked out to around 426 yds? Don’t quote me on that though.

U3 numbers as follows:

Output (U3 1C emitters):
Mode OTF Lumens
Firefly: 0.15
Low: 489
Medium: 1685
High (initial) 3174
High (10-15 seconds) 3044
Lux
Lux @ 15ft 2380
Lux @ 1m 59292
Distance @ 0.25lux 487yds

Thanks for the numbers… very helpful

May I know where you see the under driven issues mentioned? Is it one of the member here got one that is not bright enough, I forgot who he is already.
Mine is definitely driven very hard. It got so hot to touch in 10 minutes. Of course this is very subjective to judge by touching heatsink.

I think it was Texaspyro who only measured around 2200 on his.

Yes, and two other examples (allegedly U3’s) are at 2400 lm. My tailcap current readings back those numbers up.

As my Terminator is between Fenix TK70 and Trustfire X100(3*26650), so she should be within 2000 to 3000 lumens. Again, this is very subjective as different person or different led tint will have different perception.

How to do a simple relative lumens comparison without sphere?

I measured the lux on mine… 30,000 lux at 1 meter. Definitely not meeting published specs.

That is really low. I remember mine throw as good if not better as stock Trustfire X6.

Per the sales Rep on cpf - no plans for xml2.

Got my 2nd Terminator. It is fun to carry two of them though both hands are occupied. I like her handle with button so much.
I pointed both of them side by side close to each other on the wall, intensity is indeed perceivably double, and size of hotspot also double. Damn! Where is my lux meter. It means my original idea of 5 Terminator might beat Foursevens XM18, wonder why they put 28*18650 in it, maybe it is for fan as things got very hot. Now my thirst for Olight X6 is gone. And the question is do I want to get another 3 Terminator, can’t find a standard low cost mounting for 5 yet. And I can get RC40 for that money, I must as I have already skipped TK75.

You could build something like this for the price of one Terminator… 15,000 Lumen Bridgelux C9000 Light Engine

I am at the moment application level, can’t find time and energy to do DIY. I am sure I will face a lot of failure if I can ever make a 15000 lumens light myself. Thanks for the link though, you are definitely expert designer of lighting instruments.

Thanks very much! Frontpage’d and Sticky’d.
