DQG 18650 EDC--World's Smallest 18650 Flashlight

You encouraged me to try it, but at this moment I can't get the board out of the head anymore . anyway, here's how the disaster looks:

On the left side of the board is where the part is ripped off, the part still sticking to the foam is seen bottom right next to the flashlight head. Now that I see the picture, it appears like the complete solder pads were ripped off with the part. It's beyond repair after all

Getting a bit off topic now, let's talk about happy stuff again, the 18500 DQG....

I think that can still be fixed, only 3 or 4 pads to solder.
Scrape a bit from the blue color on the copper trace and then solder it on.

I am curious how much this will be…?

Here’s the AAA version. You’ll see that the LED and driver is one integrated engine.

she is not dead yet.

thanks for the picture. there's a good chance you can repair this one. it does take some skill and good eyesight :)

the 18650 dqg looks like such a nice light, the chinese have done it again.

the 100ma low mode is too much for me but that won't stop me from buying two.

I wonder if I could mod an 18650 DQG.

I’m thinking something along these lines:

  1. Replace star with 20mm triple XP-G2 R5 neutral 5000k and put appropiate optic on top.
  2. Remove driver and replace with contact plates for direct drive.
  3. Add QTC at head for brightness control.
  4. Run on IMR 18650.

EDIT: hm. maybe this idea won’t work with this light. With the LEDs mounted on the driver board there wouldn’t be enough separation from the top of the batteries.

Nice, it's really short.

Now it would be awesome to have a ~5cm long 16340 with XM-L2, That would be a really small powerful EDC.

The mini 01 is about 6 cm long so there we have a nice pocket rocket.
But the great on this is the capacity of a 18650 which is about five times a 16340 or 14500

That’s true, But I was thinking in something shorter can be made using integrated driver in LED’s board and TIR optics. Obviously you will get less runtime, but it’s nice to have a really small option. Personally, I don’t use my EDC for too much time to have a 18650’s capacity, for that reason a 16340 is enough for me. It can be shorter and brighter than an AA or AAA EDC.

Actually, I like BLF Mini more than for example iTP A1 because it is a tad longer - easier to operate.

got the board out, succesfully resoldered regulator, both modes worked again, assembled the light, TIR pressed board out of pill, took it apart again, tried to solder board to pill, something got too hot/got messed up (no idea), light is back to only low mode.

Now she really and utterly is dead. I did learn how to solder tiny bits though :

looks like you had a lot of fun tonight. are you ordering a new driver now ?

Looks like DQG AAA, Need a new driver for DQG AAA to fix it?

i can send one to you for free. I have 3 pieces DQG AAA driver left. Please PM me or send an email to sales@cnqualitygoods.com

BTW, DQG IV AAA SS version will come out next month, the UI will be Screw-off and loose-on. Maybe i should post this on DQG AAA thread.

Ric

Any idea when it will be available and how much it will be?

Wow! That’s is what I call awesome customer service! Kudos to you, Ric-CN!

Very nice! 8)
I always thought that this would be a better and more practical UI for Twisties and I wish more lights would come this way, but I guess that’s more complicated to implement.
…BUT: Does the light now have parasitic drain with this UI? or is it still a mechanically disconnected circuit when in off position? (was this understandable? :8) )

I love all DQG aaa,

Wow, that'd be great, good service, thanks, I will send you a PM right away, I am a bit clumsy sometimes but the light is dear to me.

The new version IV is a real improvement by the way, the threading is so smooth that at the moment I do not dare to put it on my keychain in fear of loosing the head, great that the switching is now the other way around!

Wow, nice light  Hardly dunno it will work with protected cells :expressionless:
On the other hand, what part should be twisted? That SS part? Just saying, because that part should have some knurling for easier operation. I see small knurling part on the head, if that is the part you need to twist - awesome.

It works with most protection 18650s, Like AW , Keeppower , Sanyo , Panasonic.

Yes, by twisting the knurling part on the head, you can turn it on/off and change modes.

Wow, what a fabulous-looking torch. I want one!

no clip, but now that I have seen your link, I still want one of those, as well! Dual O-rings on each end, even. And, at that price, I think this will also make a terrific birthday gift for my best friend. Thanks!
