Review: Black Shadow Darth 3 x XM-L T6 NW

The batteries sit very firm in the holder none are ever going to fall or shift once in their slot. Its slightly dimmer off 1 but runs well as well with 2 or 3 in place.

Hi, yes, you are right, but I mean about the batteries stay in his place inside the body… Happy New Year…

Thanks, that is what I wan to know…

Happy New Year… :smiley:

Fandyfire version now available at Fasttech for $60!

As much as I'd rather see the Black Shadow name on that light, is just different branding on the identical light and $60 is a steal for this wonder light!

Jump on it like it was Katherine Webb!! :love:

What’s the news on the FandyFire version from Fasttech? Are they the exact same in built quality and electrical innards?

Jumped!

My FT FandyFire arrived last week.

I haven’t seen a BS branded one, but mine is superb.

Everything working as described in this review? What’s the battery life on high and what cells are you using? :slight_smile:

I’ve been thinking of ordering the FandyFire version of the light and would like to know the answer to this as well.

Everything works just fine. I haven’t done a runtime test.

I have protected Panasonics in it. Tight fit but fine.

Just got some tailcap reading using 1 x 18650 senybor 2800mah

Low = 0.55 amps
Mid = 1.80 amps
High = 3.6 amps

Using XM-L specs im guessing 1260 lumens.

Well mine just came in from fasttech after much anticipation first thing I noticed when I took out. Of box is man this thing is heavy its a solid block or either 6061 or similar grade aluminum that has been milled absolutely no cast aluminum here been charging Panasonics now for 51/2 hours now cant wait till full charge and darkness to try out.3 I think I’m getting what started out as a innocent hobby to a dangerous level last week local deputy stopped.me and asked everythingwas ok on my propertybecause nieghbors 2 acres +away werw complaining about spotlights on my property any how he was impressed with out put of my C8 compared to his maglight

What is the best price on the NW version? $70 @ CNQG?

For a NW version yes, I believe so. For a CW version with a little more output, Fastech has the best price @ $62 shipped plus another 5% off if you use the code “BLF”.

Thanks. The FF is tempting, but I gotta go NW. Already have a cool FF UV-S5 for showing off. :smiley:

Hey, man, I don’t blame you. Mine is NW and I love it. For another $8 to get NW that’s not a bad deal. I don’t know what his shipping on it is though. If fancyflashlights.com ever comes back online check the price there for free shipping. Sometimes Ric sells on FF for the same price as on CNQG but shipping is free on FF.

Yeah, I checked both. Fancyflashlights seems to be up… kind of… but some of the nav is broken. You can cheat thru google.

CNQG had the better price listed - compared to the FF page I was able to find. Not 100% sure it is valid and accurate since the site seems a little off right now.

3C is definitely worth a little more $. Man…. If there was a 4C or 5C version I would pay a little more for that. I am a sucker for warms and CRI. J)

Thanks for the great review JM! Im not sure how I missed this one.

Im still enjoying the heck out of my U2 darth. :bigsmile: I took a chance during the dx 1/2 off christmas sale and thought it would make for a great mod host. After putting more than 2 months of use on it, Id have paid full price to own one now. The fit and finish is first rate for the price and I still havent found a need to mod it. If driven harder, it would become far to hot to hold within a short period of time; it already gets hot after 10 minutes in high mode. As others have mentioned, its solid, compact and built like a tank. The form factor and triangular battery tube shape make it feel more like a 2 cell light. In the hand, its hard to believe that it hides 3 x 18650’s. Silicon grease takes care of the tight oring seal for the battery tube.

Im not sure why the darth hasnt received more attention. If the darth scores a 10, Id give the original SRK a 7 for quality, design and appearances. Although it doesnt produce SRK lumens, its far better made in every regard and still kicks out a ton of light for its size. For other reading: if youre even considering it, I think this is one compact cool little flooder to own. Other reviewers seem to agree. BUY ONE NOW!

How about it? Everything about this light just feels good in the hand. I think it’s the “relatively” low output that people gripe about but when you think of other triple LED lights that only do 1800 lumens and cost $200-$300 how can anyone in their right mind bitch? Oh, that’s right…CPF members didn’t have a good thing to say about it so yeah, I repeat, how can anyone in their right mind bitch?

You know what? It seems the only people who don't like the Darth are ones who never held one in their hands. Funny how that works. It is stuck in an awkward market though...to inexpensive to appeal to flashlight snobbery types and too expensive to appeal to most budget restricted users. It is stuck in flashlight limbo overlooked by most. :(

Well said FP! Couldn't agree more. Except that: Go for NW!

I have both an original BlackShadow Darth NW (from CNQG) & FandyFire Darth CW (from the same DX -50% sale), and both are about as bright. In fact the NW even scores a bit higher in my light tube (1530lm vs. 1440lm).

CW tint in Darth isn't bad, but I'm always willing to pay a little bit extra to get a nice NW emitter.. :)
